• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I think I've finally decided to start going to counseling. It's something that I think I need to do. I'm willing to do about anything to make this better at this point. I'm only 18 though, so I really don't know how to start the process. I've looked in the yellow pages and didn't really find anything. I'd like to go to a christian counselor if I could because I want someone who is going to be able to give me advice biblically and someone with the same beliefs as mine. I'm also worried about confidentiality. I really don't want my family to find out. My mom works for the insurance company, so I'm thinking the only option I have is to pay cash up front. I'm just really not sure. I guess I'm just looking for some kind of advice or hints as to how to begin this process....

Well if you go to church your church might have something.

I know when i started counseling my doctor refered me i was asked if i prefer a Christian or secular counseler so i had a choice.

To be honest tho if your 18 years old and you want to go to counseling your mom really doesnt have a say in the matter i would just explain like i did to mine - I think this is just something i have to do mom you may not understand it but i have to do it.

Hope that helps

You can look for pastoral counselors in the yellow pages. That is how I found the counselor my daughter went to. Also if you want to go to a counselor remember this. Anything you say to the counselor is confidential. You can use the insurance and all your mom can find out is that you are seeing a counselor, she will not know why.

If you want to talk PM me.
