How do you find your destiny?

I've been troubled with an issue for quite some time.  How do you find your destiny -- what God intends for you in life?  It's similar to the age old question... Why are we here?  But by being a very spiritual Christian, I have answered that question long ago.  But what I want to know is: what is MY purpose?

I'm currently at a crossroads in life.  I've just graduated from college, and I'm now looking for work.  I can't tell you how many sermons I've heard on God's destiny for me,  and maybe I haven't been ready to hear it yet.  I have had many inspirations on the subject -- namely from movies.  I watched Forrest Gump recently, and the general theme of the movie suggests that we have a destiny and we are also "floating around accidental-like on a breeze." we make our own destiny with what God gave us, though it often isn't clear the exact path we should take.  Another movie quote I like is from Braveheart when Wallace's father says to him in a dream, "Your heart is free.  Have the courage to follow it!"

What can I do to get more in touch with my true heart?  How do I know what it is I'm most passionate about?  It often feels that there is nothing that sticks out.  I'm not asking about my faith or how I can feel God in my heart.  I am aware of many things.  I have the courage to follow my heart, but how can I have/find the direction of my heart?

I have been facing almost the exact situation that you're in right now. I don't think God always gives us the big picture.....sometimes He just guides us in baby steps. I have to admit, I don't always like that....I want to know what the end result is going to be with my career, love life, friendships, ect, so I can prepare myself ahead of time. Not being able to do that is how God teaches trust, I suppose....one of the many ways.

All I can really suggest is to keep praying....ask God to put you on the right path, and to give you peace about the answers you don't have right now.

be sensative to the Spirit s leading but make sure it s the HOLY spirit. I still wonder if I am where I am supposed to be--The restlessness of middle age perhaps. I thinky when you feel at peace about your life you are in god s will for you even if is not what you thought your life would be. Mine sure hasn t but then i committed som very serious sins and messed it up pretty bad about 20 years ago. Don tdo anything now you will regret when you are older.

i remember one time feeling restless with my apparent free time - i should be doing something, but i couldn't figure out what that was. so i fell to my knees and asked God what i should be doing. suddenly i remembered that i had a debating club meeting, and after a quick check of the schedule, i realized that it was going to start in a few minutes. so i grabbed my jacket and headed out the door.

i guess from that i'm trying to say that you should pray, but also listen for an answer... the idea that kinda pops into your head and refuses to disappear. reading your Bible and praying may sound pretty vague, but ultimately you will do what you want to do. that said, your will should be in line with God's will, so you're basically pursuing His will. funny how that works isn't it? before you can emmulate His will, you have to know it and so you turn to the Bible. Prayer keeps your heart focused on God, not the situation.

for me, i'm just trying to know myself by asking myself: "who am i". certain ideas pop into my mind that don't tie my stomach into knots and i run with them.
