Could anyone who has been able to overcome coveting tell me how they did it?

1. You start by obeying the Gospel and getting saved.
2. You continue by offering yourself to God a living sacrifice.
3. You grasp by faith the truth that God has a plan and purpose for your life.
4. God's plan and purpose also includes God's provision,
5. If you know that God will provide you with the things you need you can STOP WANTING WHAT OTHERS HAVE.
6. If you focus on God and Christ, on the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, you won't have time to be coveting what others have.

If I am playing a video game for a while, and then my attention sways to a thought about a new and better game that I want, is this coveting?

If I want a car, yet no one I know owns one (model/make), am I coveting?
Coveting is in itself not being happy with what you have and wanting more.

The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. <---> Isaiah 40:6-8

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. <---> John 8:31-36

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. 1st John 2:15-17

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. <---> 1st Corinthians 13:11

------------------------------------

Death to sinful urges is the result of being fully persuaded of the unprofitableness thereof / therein. Coveting sinfully is foolishly trading one's valuable resources for something which has no lasting quality...it is 'vanity and vexation of spirit'. The heart is only truly satisfied when it is set upon that which has everlasting beauty / goodness. Ask God for the grace to see physical beauty with age progression apptitude....even the prettiest among us turn grotesquely horrid in a handful of years...to lust after flesh and blood is to be extremely short-sighted. Knowing this well enables us to graciously die to such sinful / foolish desires.

Prayer and fasting is also potentially a powerful tool for good in these things....

Along with age and maturity.

Start (START) the same as the Apostles and disciples in the NT.
Be CRUCIFIED. (AS Scripture says, NOT , well, not like men say).
(and be buried - immersed - in Y'SHUA'S NAME
and resurrected in newness of life)

Could anyone who has been able to overcome coveting tell me how they did it?

Hebrews 4:15:
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

Having the feelings is temptation. That is normal. The average person will experience temptation as long as they live.

It is the dwelling on the feelings, and their extension, that is coveting.

Easy to say. Hard to do. But…

==========================================

1 Corinthians 10:13:
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it .

In that, we can take heart.

Also in accepting the fact that as dedicated Christians (if that is what we really are), we have no rights.

Philippians 2:5-8:
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

==========================================

There may be times when we simply have to grit our teeth and get back in our box.
