Well, sometimes it can be nice to say hi to a new person, but I think that it usually makes them feel awkward. And as for announcements, they are a necessary evil as I see it.

Uhmmm...it's ok. I never dreamed that I would be here for 19 years! It certainly isn't my dream job but for the area that I live in it is an excellent job so that's why I've stayed as long as I have.
