• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. Do any of you guys constantly think about food?

If so, how do ya'll distract yourself? Right now it is all I can think about, and I can't distract myself like I normally can. I think I'm gonna scream or go crazy soon if I can't think of anything else.

Please someone give me an idea or something before I draw my parents attention to myself.

i use fruit or vegitable to distract myself inbetween meals. it's sweet and filling.
*but if you aren't eating, you need to see a doctor. trying to not eat while your body is calling is not good.
eating healthy can be learned :hug: practice good eating, and learn to walk, rock, dance, etc., instead of panic when you eat.

Meditate on scripture, pray, and read your Bible. You have control over your thoughts, so do not let them control you. When you start to think about food, stop yourself, and turn your thoughts towards God. Ask Him for help, and he will come to your rescue.

Some of my favorite verses:

II Corinthians X:IV - The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.

Colossians III:I-III - Since then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden, with Christ in God.

Philippians IV:VIII - Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Job XXIII:XII - I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.

Eat more fruits and vegetables in between meals is a good way to distract yourself from overeating (the sweetness is fullfilling).

And exercise (working out) a lot helps too. And helps suppress your appetite so you don't eat as much during the day.

Set a goal like not eating after a specific time in the evening or in the morning (for me, I never eat after 8:00 pm). It works.

Drink lots of water. Try to stay away from caffeine and alcohol. Water is the best way to go.
