  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How do we develop the tools for not being taken in by poor philosphy?

Just to be up front, I am philosophical Thomist following Jacques Maritain.
I have been reading a lot of David Tracy and process. feeling the need to maybe balance with Maritain, seeing his name a lot.
Any recommended reading?

If you can find his ‘Introduction to Philosophy’ it would be a good but somewhat simplified book. But he was prolific. There are other Neo-Thomists of merit too.

There was a used bookstore I frequented 25 years ago that had a grand collection of Maritain. I kind of depleted it.

How do we develop the tools for not being taken in by poor philosphy? Also, dangerious Theology?
It's important that you don't just buy into what someone tells you. Do your own homework by the Word and allowing the Holy Spirit to reveal it to you.

Never listen to man over God.
