It depends what you want. There are many scripts available for ecommerce objectives, but a full fledged ecom website could take a while even with pre-written scripts.

This is one area that won't reward you for going on the cheap. If you already have a web site put together, but you're lacking the e-commerce side to handle sales, check out Kagi. They're at:

If you sign up with a cheap host then you should get cpanel. CPanel will have something called fantastico in it that has all the CMS's, shopping carts, and other ecommerce related items you'll ever need.

you could use paypal shopping cart as a start perhaps.

I have been using Paypal for a couple of years now and have had no problems at all. And just to be on the safe side I opened a checking account just for the sales that come from my paypal account and nothing else.

It is not too hard to setup!
