Ever since i was little, i've always wanted to be a doctor. I've applied to the only medical school i'm qualified for and i got waitlisted in 2 consecutive years without getting in. Does God want me to do something else? Does the fact that i'm on the waitlist means i should keep trying? I've prayed for wisdom but i think i'm not comprehending what God wants. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't take being on the waitlist as a definate I don't want this for you from God. I'm glad to hear that you've prayed about this because that is the first fhing that I usually recomend.

Perhaps God is allowing this to happen so that you can grow in your relationship with him and/or a significant other. He may be leading you to go into some kind of ministry, or perhaps he dosen't even want you to go to that particular school.

I would pray about it more, fast, read the bible, and spend time with him. Like I said earlier he could be allowing this so that you will be able to grow in your realtionship with Him.

All of these are right. Maybe God is calling you to be a doctor, but perhaps he's called you to take some time off and focus on him for awhile. The waitlist isn't a definate "no". My advice is to spend a lot of time in prayer. HE WILL SHOW YOU. Just wait on him. You are asking him to lead you....that is a usable heart that he will totally bless. He won't lead you in the dark- That's a promise from Him and Me. Fast, pray, have others pray. He formed you intricately for a special purpose and he will let you know what the purpose is. He wants to use you for his glory--and you're totally letting him =) .
Keep Praying
Be Blessed.

I would also reccomend reading "The Purpose Driven Life"--We're about to do it as a church...it's awesome.

My advice to you is to be patiently awaiting God's answer. Be confident that He will answer your prayer and keep on praying.
Psalm 27:14
"Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD."

Realise that where you are right now, is where God wants you to be. DO you think God would place you somewhere where you're not supposed to be? God works all things for the Good of those who love Him (I could have botched up the end of that) but it's in Romans 8. God's sovereign will and plan has placed you where you are now. Trust that God is working this thing for your good. Maybe He is showing you the importance of patience? Who knows? Only God. Therefore trust that He is good, and will do you good.

I still ask him that, and I"m not sure..but I do know that he did pull me away from going into the Airforce years back (at the time I didn't know we'd be going to war w Iraq, but God did and he didn't want me there) ...so right now.i'm on a different path..going through college..possibly get into the academy and become a police officer...who knows..maybe i'll fail and live in a carboard box... yea

Pray about it consistently and persistently, also ask someone else to pray for you also...it helps out a lot. Spend more time with God, read the Bible, fast. God knows the plans he has for you, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11. Perhaps this is also a time for you to see the other options that are around you...and grab them while they're available. God will always provide the best for you...trust in Him.

Pray for an answer.
Did it ever occur to you that maybe God really doesn't care if you do or don't get into medical school? Maybe you have another profession out there that will be something you will be completely happy with that you just haven't taken a look at yet. Who knows,,i don't. All i'm saying is that God gives us the brains and decision making power to shape our own futures. God does control all, but he allows us to make mistakes and have successes.

What's causing you to be waitlisted for 2 consective years? GPA? Interviews? Volunteer experiences. You can always ask the adcoms to give you feedbacks on things that you can upgrade on your application. I know someone who has problems speaking during interview, so she didn't get in any med schools in her first try considered that she has a pretty competitive GPA and MCAT score. So, she spent extra $ and took a course just on interviewing to improve her interviewing skill. Then she got in next year! Did you apply private and osteopathic schools? Although those schools are more expensive than public ones, you will qualify to become a physician in the end. Or maybe you should check out Caribbean med schools. They are generally easier to get in than US schools. But it will be very harder to get the specialization you want. Most Caribbean grads end up practicing in primary care. If you check out different possible careers and see that you can't pursue anything else other than medicine, you will definitely get in somewhere. You can try to apply schools in Europe or other countries! Some paths you take will be harder than others. I don't know how much are you willing to scarifice to practice medicine. But in the end, you will be a physician if you keep trying to improve your applcation, applying to as many schools as you can, and willing to attend international schools knowing that you won't get in specializations that provides good lifestyle ! You should post your cocerns at forums.studentdoctor. net. I bet many people there can help you out. I am not a pre-med yet, but that's all I can say from my research about medicine. And definitely pray about it!
God will bless you as always!

If it's your desire to become a doctor then you were probably meant to become a doctor. Don't go and give up just because you're on a waiting list. Right now I'm on a waiting list for the Radiologic Technology program and the LVN program that doesn't mean that I shouldn't do neither of them and go for something else. I'd suggest staying strong and keep on working at it.

But also keep on praying about it and just pray that God will give you the answer. If he doesn't say anything to you or anything then I don't know what to say.

It's weird, ever since I was a kid I wanted to be in the police. But eventually I wanted to go into medicine. I ended up at uni doing history. my career hopes changed from year to year. But now I'm back at square one because when I leave uni I'm going for accelerated promotion with the police!

If it's something you have always wanted to do, I think that's the path you will take.

Well, apart from praying which everyone's mentioned, I'd like to add to what Pirch80 said in that God gives us all desires for our futures and what jobs we will go into and if you desire to be a doctor for the right reasons then that's probably where you're called. Trust God and ask Him to give you a peace about your future.
