My View ?

" ALL that GOD made was GOOD." " ALL "

He only wants, gives, & says GOOD.

Yet feelings to KEEP you SAFE, away from LOSERS, and danger
thieves, etc, are warnings, to keep his CHILD safe. " YOU "

IMO;
How does God talk to us? it all really depends on YOU.

i agree with a previous reply, that the Bible is definately His word. So that's a good place to begin.
When i first "got saved", i wanted to know who this God was that i just commited my life to. From His word (the Bible) we can "get to know Him". It tells us about His love, His character, His compassion, but it also tells us of His hatred of sin, His wrath and judgement.

Yes, He does speak to us in our thoughts, and through other people. And sometimes in an audible voice. And sometimes through christian music. He is not limited to the Bible.

Scripture says "Wisdom from above is pure, Holy, peacefull, etc..." You should find that verse, and see what it has to say about Godly wisdom. Even memorize it, so that you can "test" whatever thoughts come your way.

WARNING; just like God does speak to us through our thoughts, so do the powers of satan. We may be bombarded with imaginations, suggestions, or temptations in our mind. So it's important to be able to tell the difference. How do we do that? BIBLE !!!

And last but not least, we also have US to deal with. Our brain can also become full of our own garbage. Our lust.

Just show God that you are serious about getting to know HIM, and He will not let you down!

Hello Sparklette!

Most often I hear the Lord through my Bible. His Word is His voice. It is also possible to hear that "still small voice" Elijah talked about in your spirit. It comes from within you, but not your mind. The closest thing I can say, is I just know something, and with it comes God's peace.

I have also heard the Holy Spirit talk to me in dreams. You can also have visions, open visions, which means you physically see something, or closed visions, where you see something with your spiritual eyes. Some people have actually heard an audible voice, for example, one of my former pastors.

All words, dreams, visions, etc must be tested, 1 John 4:1. Don't just believe anything you hear, that's dangerous.

To discern what is God and what is not, here is a blog I wrote: http://christianforums.com/blog.php?b=3541

The Bible tells us that God is always with us. He also tells us His sheep will know His voice.

God speaks to us in many ways, just always stay tuned into His Spirit - the Holy Spirit will always guide you.

Sometimes a strong thought will come into your mind that you know is not your thought, sometimes when you are reading the Bible something will just jump out at you. Sometimes you will feel the desire to do something for someone or help someone that is very strong. You may have dreams, visions as stated above.

Just always ask Jesus if this is of Him. It is hard to explain, but you just know that you know that you know.

As mentioned, the way God talks to us is through the Bible. It is his revelation to mankind (I Thess 2:13). We talk to him through prayer.

We can all use guidance from God; we should be praying and searching the bible for help and direction all the time. I find that when I am struggling to do things his way or am having difficulty in life the more I search and pray the better I feel. And if God chooses, sometimes he arranges things to work out in ways I never even contemplated. One word of caution, God is not on our timeline so we have to be patient and never give up. We cannot demand answers from God.

I do not believe he uses signs/wonders/dreams and strange tongues as methods of talking to us. That all ended in Paul’s days. Today, Satan leads many astray with these things. God warns us about this (Matt 24:24, 2 Cor 11:13-15, 2 Thess).

Listen to God in the Bible (Ro 10:17) and pray often (I Thess 5:17).

Is it in my thoughts?
Is it a voice from above or within?
Could it be in my dreams?

I would really love some guidance from god, but I am not sure if he is talking to me or not .

How does God talk to you?

I have experienced God talking to me in a variety of imaginative ways - well, he is the Creator! But, I think we tend to limit God.

God has never appeared to me in a burning bush or a blinding flash of light. I have heard his word on one occasion. He has not visited me in any dream as far as I know.

But I see his messages written in the ordinary conversations of people. Even those people who are, dare I admit as much, not my cup of tea. Yet, it is often from such people that I hear a phrase that has the message for me - not that those present would recognise as much. And I spend time is contemplation and meditation - just dwelling on a sentence, or a word, from the Bible. Not that anything significant might happen but perhaps a week, two weeks, later up will pop my answer from some unexpected quarter - even from a newspaper piece. Once, the answer was written in the stars - or I might have just been looking skywards at the time.

It would be wrong to think that I 'look' for such answers - they just happen. In fact, it is my experience that 'looking' for answers is not a good option - too often any such 'answer' is probably contrived in some way by my own silent agenda about how I might 'wish' things would be.

We tend to look for the dramatic - clashing symbols, the trumpets, the lightening. More often it is in the quiet of the dawn, the drop of water from a tap, the fall of a leaf, the spontaneous laughter of children - the small and insignificant things that herald the presence of God.

God can use all those things to speak to you. He communicates to each of us in a personal way and relates to us as individuals.

I would really love some guidance from god, but I am not sure if he is talking to me or not .

first off, start with His Word. whatever God communicates to you, He'll communicate it through His Word. and as you read it, His Spirit will begin to direct you

How does God talk to you?

sometimes God may speak to me through my dreams or even through a song. sometimes He may speak to me through my conscience (the Bible calls it conviction) and let me know when I'm doing something wrong or when I need to come to Him about something. usually, i'll start off by talking to Him in prayer. then He may lead me to a certain scripture that speaks about whatever i need at that time. and from there His Spirit speaks to my spirit and gives me guidance for that situation. the main way God talks to me is through prayer and through the Bible

Love,
~jazzy

The Bible is the most reliable place to find God talking, about Who He is and what He wants for His people.

I'll tell you, I've only once heard one sentence that I believed was from God outside the Bible. And I never want to hear that kind of commanding again. It was scary, it was intimidating, and it was not something I could miss or avoid doing. It came from deep inside me, and it said something. And I did it, it felt by compulsion.

Better to relate to God through reading His Word. "Heed" it, and you won't find yourself in the scary position I found myself.

You should also be aware that the "traditions of man" say that God is "limited" to the Bible.

When God was communicating with Adam and Eve in the garden, were they reading their Bibles? NO

When people confine God to the Bible, they are missing out on some very personal, intimate communication with God.

Rob, Adam and Eve had a relationship with God in the Garden that we don't have today because they did not have sin and we do.

The problem with believing that you hear God through subjective and esoteric means, such as you're suggesting, is that, by an amazing coincidence, "God" says whatever you want Him to.

How do you know it's God if you don't test what you hear in light of scripture? (and please don't say "My sheep hear My voice" because that's talking about something completely different)

Hi Sparklette,

First off you need to understand the two-fold rules and principle of ALL THINGS of Creation.

There is good and evil, light and darkness, white and black, positivity and negativity, and male and female.

When we become a believer in our Lord Jesus Christ, we are no longer conformed to this world of evil, darkness, black, and negativity, and we are either male or female.

Our body, which is the “temple/vessel/house”, contains our “soul” and our “spirit”.

In our “soul” we have a “brain” and a “heart”, which are referred to as being our carnal mind (brain) and our spiritual mind (Heart).

Is it in my thoughts?
All our thoughts in our brain and these thoughts need to be transformed and renewed and placed upon our heart. Our heart is our vessel of His Kingdom. From our heart flows abundantly the word of our Lord Jesus Christ. Whatever comes out of our mouth comes out of our heart.

Is it a voice from above or within?
Our brain is Satan’s battleground, and if anything comes to mind in the brain it needs to be sent straight to our heart for decipherment. If you heart feels uneasy, then the Holy Spirit is convicting.

Could it be in my dreams?
There is a big difference between dreams and thoughts, so can you explain your struggle?

I would really love some guidance from god, but I am not sure if he is talking to me or not
I believe that our Lord Jesus Christ is talking to you, because you have posted on this site for help and advice.

How does God talk to you?
Our Lord Jesus Christ talks to you through your heart: as you hear His Inspired Word; as you receive a word from another person; and during fellowship and relationship with other people.

Don’t get caught up with dreams, because the “angel of light” is a counterfeiter and a liar. Many so-called godly dreams are the works of the enemy, and they seduce and deceive many believers.

Blessings!
