The Holy Ghost was sent to earth after Jesus had gone back to the Father. The Holy Ghost is our Helper, our Teacher and our Friend. If you really want the Holy Ghost, you must pray und ask God/Jesus for Him.God has promised if you ask,you will be given.Believe God`s promise and thank Him.The longer you have the Holy Ghost(or Holy Spirit}the stronger the assurance that you have been filled with the Holy Spirit. You might not notice for some time, but the people around you will. The Holy Spirit teaches us to love God with all our beings, and also to love others as you love yourself.Sincere greetings from Emmy,a sister in Christ.

The Holy Ghost is that small, still voice inside you. I don't know of any formula to know that you have communication with it. You'll have to figure it out as you go.

The Holy Spirit dwells in us. He is God present in our lives. Every Christian has the Holy Spirit, God wants to use us as His temple not stone.

In the OT Gd dwelt in a structure- a tent when Isreal was nomadic and a temple when they settled down in Jerusalem. The high Priest had to offer sacrifices before he coud apporach God on behlaf of the people and interceed for them. The sacrifices had to be offered continually for God is Holy God and no sin can be in his presence.

Christ came to open up the way to God for us all. We did not have to be special people or a priest. Instead of imperfect temporary animal sacrifices God made a one off perfect sacrifice of His Son so that we would never be apart again.

In as a sense every Christina is a priest because we can all enter freely into the presence of God. We are described as a Royal Preisthood. Once we are back in relationship with God, He never lets us go again. We experience the presence of God in our lives as the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit acts in our life. It is part of the basic specification of a Christian not an optional extra. The Holy spirit is the means by which we ecnounter God the Father.

The Holy Spirit is a living thing and active. But it can only be active in our lives when we are living to in accordance with Gods will and when we allow it freedom to act. The baptism of the Holy Spirit describes when we encounter the Holy Spirit in a deep way and allow it to over flow from us. It is kind of like letting God have control of us. (I'm sorry this is not a adequate description of it). Often it can be accompanied by spiritual gifs and miracles. remember that the Holy Spirit is God and is soverign so will only give gifts as God wills and usually for a purpose. There is no shame about this as we have discussed before.

We do not need to "get" the Holy Spirit. However we can become more aware of the spirits presence. This can be through a variety of worship styles, contemplation, prayer, studying and reading the bible or meditation. Theses are Disciplines that you can practice. Try reading Roger Forster The Celebration of Discipline for a good introduction to this route to an encounter with God.

How do I get the Holy Ghost?

and when I do get it how do I know? what signs are there?
The Bible doesn't say that all people must receive a certain way from God, but the early Church obviously showed the sign of speaking in tongues. The scriptures are hard to ignore and the Bible tells us that things are to be established by at least two witnesses. There are two in the book of Acts, but I would suggest reading the entire book and the read the chapers 12 through 14 in the letter of 1 Corinthians.

2Co 13:1 This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.

Acts 10:44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

Acts 19:1 While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul traveled through the interior provinces. Finally, he came to Ephesus, where he found several believers. 2 "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" he asked them. "No," they replied, "we don’t know what you mean. We haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit." 3 "Then what baptism did you experience?" he asked. And they replied, "The baptism of John." 4 Paul said, "John’s baptism was to demonstrate a desire to turn from sin and turn to God. John himself told the people to believe in Jesus, the one John said would come later." 5 As soon as they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 Then when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in other tongues and prophesied.

Anyway, I'm sure I read earlier on what signs come with the Holy Spirit for those who receive it. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone,

Speaking in Tongues

Prophesy (I read this as being favoured)

Ability to heal

I'm sure there were more, I've just forgotten. Anyone help me out? The bible said that God would provide one of these gifts to each person who receives the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit comes upon us the minute we ask Christ into our lives and seek forgiveness (Sinners prayer). The Holy Spirit will give us gifts but not everyone will be given noticeable, audible gifts. It could be things like; counseling, helping, teaching, administration, ect.
It is not neccesarily going to be a huge emotionalk touchy, feely, experience. In fact, I know very few people that have had huge ordeals when the Spirit comes in thier lives. If you are saved He already dwells in you. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you and He will
In Him

Every Christian is indwelt by the Holy Spirit (see Acts 2:38, 1Cor 12:13). This is automatic, and necessary to our salvation, since it is the Spirit who regenerates us, guides us, gives us spiritual fruits and gifts, and teaches us God's will.

If you are not sure whether you are a Christian, then let us know and we can talk about that.

If you are sure that you are a Christian, then you can be assured that the Holy Spirit is in fact a part of your life. However, you have a choice over how much you allow him to participate with you--ie: you can let him lead you daily or you can do your own thing. This is why Paul talks about "walking in the Spirit" in Galatians, and how that causes us to live better, more fulfilling lives because He is at the helm. Paul also commands us in Ephesians to "be continually filled with the Spirit", which means daily prayer and asking Him to guide, convict, and equip us.

This does NOT always mean that you are going to speak in tongues or that you will even *feel* Him in your life. Sometimes those things happen, but it is God's choice how he wants to reveal himself to you. There is no magic formula that will suddenly make you speak in tongues or have other various gifts. It is up to God to decide that, not us.

What this means is that you simply need to keep seeking God, and learn how to obey His promptings (this takes practice to recognize and obey). Then you will be walking in the Spirit.

Remember that the Holy Spirit is a *person*, like God the Father and Jesus, not some mysterious force that we can manipulate.

Yeah, it's just like smoking pot: you sit around and giggle like an idiot for twenty minutes and then you fall asleep...no, wait, that's a Benny Hinn show.

Hi there!

Oh, please, please, ignore those who aren't serious in their postings to you...

You need to come to a good understanding of the Holy Spirit to realize that "you got it"... and you can get more where that came from.

When you are saved, and when you ask God to live in your heart, you are born again. That's the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.... that's the comforter, the still small voice, the discernment to lead you into truth. That's what Jesus gave His disciples in John 20:22

But there's more, and that's where everyone get in the big discussion of "what" and "how" and "how much more".

I can only tell you that it's different for everyone because God doesn't give the same gifts to every person. But "what" is the infilling of the Holy Spirit (in addition to the indwelling of the Spirit). The infilling is the empowerment given to you from God to do that which God calls you to do. And "how"... for some it is being slain in the Spirit, for other's it's a prayer language, or some other "gift".

How much more... that's up to God. He know what you need to get His work accomplished...

You just get the indwelling one time, and it's a permanent fixure... when your spirit is born again and able to communicate with God's Spirit (reconciled)

but the infilling... that can happen again and again... as often as you go to the fountain, you will get filled... remember, though, there's a catch...because the infilling is the empowerment needed to do God's work... it isn't just a "feel good" experience... but something added to your abilities to further the work in God's kingdom.

I just won't "go there" on speaking in tongues... let that "still, small voice" lead you into truth.

If you asked, then you have received, as Klewis gave the verses for. The manifestation will not always be the same as other peoples, but as the Spirit wills, and this may only come at a certain time when it is needed within the body of Christ - for the bodies good. There are other gifts, too, such as those listed in Romans:

Romans 12:6 Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith;
7 if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching;
8 or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

1Corinthians 12:11 It is the one and only Holy Spirit who distributes these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.

So...would this be an example of having the holy ghost?

You tell a lie, and after, you feel bad until you confess. Then, you still feal a little bad.

Also, I was playing a game, and felt that I should be here instead, and learning more about God. I just felt that I should. Is that it?

There were times in my life that I did not feel Gods presense, It was usually me that was getting in the way, I may have had other thing in my heart, and there was no room for Jesus at that moment. You have to empty every thing out of your heart before he will live there. This may be odd to some people but this is what I use to do, because I was in the Spirit most all the time, I would ask the Spirit to leave for a few minutes so I could feel what it was like to know what people feel with out the Spirit, because I had forgotton what it was like to be without Gods Holy Spirit. I was finding it hard to understand what unsaved people feel. So after saying all that, search your heart and see what may be there thats getting in the way.

That woud be part. Yes, the Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, but not in the same way as guilt. Conviction has hope of reward, while quilt is usually something a person will run from. The Holy Spirit draws us to the truth while the devil runs us away from it.
