I see the sticky for becoming a member is closed? I believe I read & understand the rules. I asked some kind & helpful people from here & they felt there was not a method in service as of now. Can anyone help?

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hold on folks. Now, I am all for adding this member, but the decision has not yet been made. I am not fully a mod yet, but as far as I know, we have to stick to the rules until they are changed.
I am not trying to be the bad guy here, but we y'all didn't hire me to let the rules be disregarded, right?

OK, Lisa. Sorry to cause you problems, if I did. Could you PM Greg, and let him know though. Just so he's not totally confused? Is our membership list on hold now so to speak?
Lisa, according to our rules as they stand today (in the sticky) there is no process by which people can become confirmed members (i.e. no sign-in thread). SO, according to our rules and seeing as Greg affirmed his agreement with the CC rules/WIKI in his first thread on the subject of becoming a member, I don't see why this is a problem (admitting him as a member). It doesn't conflict with any rules that are in existence right now.
If this isn't acceptable (simply making a thread requesting membership at this point). Then IMHO we need a sticky thread stating that until we figure out how we are going to accept new members, there will be no additions of new members.
I just don't see how accepting Greg at this point is a violation of any of our rules. And, who is to make the decision of whether he can become a member or not (or were you referring to the decision of how to accept a member has not been decided yet). The rules in the sticky were already changed to be Open Membership, so until the poll is finished we are technically (indeed) accepting open membership, and as such under the rules rrguy should be allowed to join.

No, that is fine. No problems here. I was just afraid that other members would get upset if we did this. The poll ends on September 2, which I personally thought was too long. I asked in that thread what we should do with member requests in the interim, but I only got one answer.
I don't know what to do. My gut says the safest thing is to stick to the rules we have until there is an official change.

I PM'd him and apologized profusely for having to be the mean old mod. I told him there were two choices. He could wait until Sept 2, or we could open up a Sponsorship thread. There are already 3 here who have made sort of a motion to let him in. I will be #4. So, go get 1 more person, and we can add him.

Lisa, see my post as I added a few things... (Sorry -- I probably edited while you were replying). My main point is that RIGHT NOW as the rules stand in the sticky we ARE accepting open membership. When Sophia snapshat the rules on 8/20/07 this made them binding and did NOT include a sponsorship rule.
Again, this is all according to how I understand things. And, I'm not trying to cause problems, but that is why I said what I did in the other thread about Sophia snapshotting the rules -- that they were already changed (from the 5 sponsor rule) before the poll was finished...
