  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I won't speak for all Catholics, but I will speak for myself.
I am opposed.
I think it's outrageous that a person can claim to know more than God, or to think that God made a mistake when He created them.

I think that those persons who are under the influence of a corrupt society which wants nothing more than to destroy all mention of and belief in God would stoop to anything that would allow them to do so.
including transgenderism.

Even in my most liberal days transgenderism wasn't something I bought into. I'm just completely convinced that any confusion over ones gender originates from a convoluted societal message that says gender and biology are unrelated, and tugs at any thread to unravel a persons identity.

Sexual dimorphism has always stood in the way of me intellectually agreeing with transgenderism.

That being said, I just can't be bothered to push for politics that forces people to live how I want them to live. My rationale is "God didn't force himself on us, what makes us think we have the right to do that to others?"

I can say it doesn't belong in the Church or in any Catholic schools because it stands in conflict with Catholic moral teaching and that I will defend until my last breath, but in a secular society with separation of church and state, it's subject to the zeitgeist of American culture (for better or worse).

In the first chapter of the Holy Bible it says, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." (Gen 1:27)
agreed, and now some people want to do away with all gender related pronouns.

I know the parents of a transgender child, and when they share his story, I understand that there are really people whose sexuality was indeterminate at birth, verifiable by hormone levels and other medical factors.

I understand that not every case is as clear cut medically, but some are.
