6th grade, beginner band. After I proved myself by wanting to stick with drums, my parents gave me a drumset for Christmas when I was 11 years old. My drum teacher introduced me to Jazz by studying Jazz beats and patterns and told me to listen to Jazz albums, and particularly the drummer. So, I listened to the likes of anything Buddy Rich, Joe Morello's "Take Five", etc. In 1974 Maynard Ferguson released his "Chameleon" album which set the standard for all proressive Jazz albums for the next 10 or so years.
