I am 19, and in the past year have felt like I belong in the Ministry. Not as a Pastor, but possibly Missionary work or my own Music Ministry. I'd like to know how others got into the Ministry, and what steps I could take to get started with this.
I took a correspondence course from a man who was a minister and took the word into undeveloped areas in Africa, as he was born Kenyan.
One of his courses dealt with 'the call'. One thing that was impressed on me is the importance of the preparation period and following God's timing. He said that for some, the preparation period can be quite long. Note that Christ had a 30 year preparation period. The Apostle Paul had a three year period of preparation.
He said that during this preparation, it is important to learn all that you can and to actively help others in their ministries. I have personally known several who had the call but in their emotional Zeal stepped out of time and the results were disastrous.
It also sounds like you have a call to serve Jesus full time but are unsure as to what capacity. I think that this would be a good time to volunteer your help in different types of ministries. This would give you very good information.
Some things you could do:
Spend time with your pastor and see what it is that he or she does.
Help with the music ministry in your church.
Help with soup kitchens, evangelism in your church, go on short term mission trips.
Considering your age, is attendance at a good Christian College a possibility?
