Thank you everyone for your replies!

It seems a lot of people here have a negative view of Christianity. What could Christianity, or Christians, change to give you a more positive view?

To connect back to what I said previously, Christianity is a fairly wide spectrum. And some of it is really OK, while some is bad, and some is simply beyond the pale.

For the part of the spectrum that what I sense to be OK (it is really just that, OK - no more, no less.) it also has to be said that it (a) is the best that is possibly to be had of Christianty and (b) it exists already and is (was might be better) examplified in quite a few people's opinions around these boards.

So, the question actually becomes fairly simple. I would hope that the whole of the Christian spectrum gravitate towards the more sensible end of the spectrum.

Greetings! :)

[H]ow did you find this forum?

It was recommended by a friend.

Why did you choose to join a Christian forum even though you are not Christian yourself?

As a Baha'i I'm technically Christian in that I accept and believe in both Christ and the Bible, albeit with significant differences from "mainstream" Christianity (and am thus similar to a lot of other Christians in all of Christianity's variety). As to why I'm here, I very much enjoy discussing religion with other folks!

Has this forum positively or negatively affected your views of Christianity?

No effect whatever given that my view is already eminently positive!

Are you a part of a forum that caters to your own specific religion?

Yes--indeed, at least five of them!

(Like I always say, "everyone should have a hobby!")

Best regards, :)

Bruce

Namaste ahmid,

thank you for the strange post.

Every non-christian response that is negative simply reflects his/her main trait. If a christian response seems strong, it is only for the pagan's benefit.

ipsofacto, every non-Christian response that is positive simply reflects our main trait. if a christian response seems compassionate it is for the non-Christian benefit.

logic is such a wonderful tool though like the old adage cuts both ways.

God is your witness and mine. If a pagan decides not to know his real maker, I have nothing to do with that decision. I have written to enlighten and my prayers have been for the pagan's enlightenment in Christ.

it's interesting that you think that beliefs are choices. i am willing to wager that i can demonstrate to you that beliefs are *not* choices and, for double or nothing, that such a demonstration wouldn't change your view... care to take that wager ;)

the Christian paradigm isn't based on Awakening and Liberation which in English is ususally termed "enlightenment". of course you may mean something else by this term than is commonly understood.

metta,

~v

To all the Non-Christians here at CF, how did you find this forum?
I googled it. Looked it over and it seemed pretty diverse and active.

Why did you choose to join a Christian forum even though you are not Christian yourself?
I'd rather discuss things with many different opinions. I also have questions sometimes about Christianity and I'd rather go straight to the source and ask Christians.

Has this forum positively or negatively affected your views of Christianity?
Well I just joined so not much really. I was saddened to see the Apologetics board go away. My view of Christianity or any theistic belief system is fairly locked in anyway.

Are you a part of a forum that caters to your own specific religion?
Nope. I lurk at de-conversion.com a lot though.

Thanks...I've just been curious about this.
Well you are welcome.
Best,

Blue

Hello and thanks for the question!

I have always been interested in this topic from a young age. Though I have always been interested in reality itself and it's fundamental processes and constituents. As a child I read many books on science, philosophy and religion.

Around seven years ago I bought my first pc and an internet connection. It was at this time I discovered the science versus creationism debate. As I have a great concern for what is true and creationism being demonstrably false I was drawn to it like a moth to a candle flame. It literally fascinated me that people could trick themselves into believing something so obviously incorrect. This segued naturally into the philosophy of religion (and later morality and ethics).

I was always more of a chat debater than a forum poster, debating at the MSN chatrooms (notably AskAnAtheist and Christianity vs. Atheism) until they were closed. Since then this is really the only forum I have ever posted extensively on.

I chose to join this forum because it appears to me that Christianity is actually and actively a negative influence on many of it's followers. Some of which would be happier and healthier without it. I'm here to help.

This forum has confirmed my opinions on what Christianity really is.

Though I am a member of an atheist message board I do not post there, and rarely visit it. This is my only real forum on the net.

It seems a lot of people here have a negative view of Christianity. What could Christianity, or Christians, change to give you a more positive view?
Well off the top of my head;

Less of a focus on faith. Having faith, or believing something despite any evidence or reason to the contrary, is dishonest, dishonourable and demonstrates the lack of concern for truth that many theists have. Actions speak louder than words. Some Christians will say that it is faith not works that gets one into Heaven. Which of course leads to various grotesque conclusions such as the rapist reaching Heaven while the aid-worker does not. This also lessens God as it makes out that he is swayed by such base actions as worship.

Less focus on the Bible and more focus on God. The Bible is not a particularly good book, it demonstrates a rather primitive morality that we have long since surpassed. Some Christians though focus almost exclusively on what the Bible says, and not on what the right thing to do would be.

Less following and more thinking. Being a "sheep" is not a positive attribute. Sheep are docile animals that follow unquestioningly where they are led.

Christians should really demonstrate good things to non-Christians, but they often demonstrate prejudice, exclusivity, dishonesty and arrogance.
