It's pretty much true mate, in my day to day life I very rarely encounter religion. On sundays the Churches are virtually empty, almost all of our smaller chapels are closed and have been sold off to be converted to housing, community centres etc. The main function of the clergy seems to be performing Christenings, funerals and weddings (which are more of a traditional thing rather than religious, my daughter was Christened even though I'm an atheist). I'm not saying that there are no genuinely religious folks about but they're a quiet minority. You might see the occasional street 'preacher' or Jehovah's witness about but they're generally viewed as weirdos to be avoided.

This reminded me of something, the Titanic set out to break the record for fastest Atlantic crossing on its maiden voyage. Scientists or seaman would not be inclined to do something like that, test it, get the bugs out and then go for the record. But there were marketing considerations and they trumped safety.

Well yes, I agree with that, but I meant it's not difficult to comprehend the fact that there are people who believe it.

In the 3rd world perhaps but not in what should be considered to be an advanced country like the USA, I thought 99% of Americans went to school, I was obviously wrong.

It's a legitimate question. We see evidence of fire throughout the fossil record. If the entire fossil record was laid down by a flood, this would seem pretty ridiculous.

Unless you're talking about fire making, then that's like asking how tree planting survived the Flood.In Genesis-speak, those are days three, five, and six.I'm going to disagree on principle here.

A google of "Silurian" says it is a time when fish life was in existence, and plant life was just starting to come on the scene.

This is contrary to the Bible, which has plant life first (Day Three), then fish (Day Five).Ya ... geologists are wrong.

The only way they can be right about fire, is maybe there were lightning strikes after Day Three that started wildfires, and geologists are interpreting that as fire making.

But I seriously doubt that, since until the Flood a mist went up from the surface of the earth and watered it.

So to avoid all this confusion, I'll just say geologists ... like any other scientists who contradict Genesis ... are wrong.

Not suggesting that fire was made intentionally. The geological layers in question show evidence that fires happened naturally. Google fossil fire for starters. Has some interesting stuff. Either way we have evidence that fire happened in the past. If you follow Genesis as strictly literal, then the flood must explain the origin of the fossil record. And if the food explains the fossil record, the fossil record itself contains numerous examples of phenomena that contradict the possibility of having existed at the same time a flood was happening

Several furnaces on a ship made of nothing but WOOD? what did they burn coal or WOOD? who stoked the furnaces?

The ark was made of wood but the furnaces would have been metal. I'm guessing the fuel was bitumen or coal.
