How did Adam understand the word "death"?

If Adam had not worked it, the plant might have died. He might have seen some dead plants.

How did Adam understand the concept of death?

Adam understood death as the opposite of life.

Is it not possible that animals killed other animals for food before the fall? When Paul speaks of death entering the world through Adam and Eve's sin, could he not be referring to spiritual matters? Our bodies are full of individual cells that are in a constant flux of birth, life, and then death. But I live on because other cells take their place, and I don't die even though one of my cells dies. In nature the cycle of life, death, and reproduction allows for evolutionary changes, revealing God's amazing mechanisms for change. Why couldn't this have been in operation before the fall?

I have posted before a theory that life on earth could have existed for millions of years BEFORE the fall of Adam and Eve. It would explain much of the physical evidence we see in the world around us.
