  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

We have a Covenant Theology forum. This is great.Well, since I discovered this forum I thought I would say a thing or two.Since I've been convinced of Convanant Theology everything makes for since.I can't put it into words, but Convenant Theology has tremendously changed my view of God, Eschatology, myself, and everything. It sheds such glorious light on the Bible.Anyone else want to say something good about Covenant Theology?

That little joke about evolution being an explosion in a parts factory that produces an airplane ... that's about what Covenant Theology did to my thoughts about God. Jumbles of different ideas jostling for space disappeared when the Covenants came in and detonated all my crazy ideas about how things worked -- and gave me a consistent view of progressive revelation across all history.

Could this be because Calvin himself was very well versed in the Church Fathers? After all, he was a big fan of John Chrysostom.

The Reader Peter

You are correct, Calvin was very well versed in the Early Church Fathers. I too am now reading a good deal in the Fathers. I've read most of the writings of the Apostolic Fathers, all Justine Martyr, Athenagorus, Tertullian, all the correspondence and some of the treatises of Cyprian, etc...

The more I read the Fathers the more I desire to read them. I've also been reaidng a good bit in Calvin. Calvin made the point, when countering Cardinal Sadolet's letter to the people of Geneva, that he and the Reformers were much closer to the Church Fathers than the Roman Catholics then were. I think Calvin is correct.

There are things about the Eastern Church that I admire. For example, I agree with their understanding of paedocommunion against the Western Churches views on this matter. But I don't believe I could ever go to the Orthodox because of other issues.

I have never visited an Orthodox worship service. We have an Orthodox Church in our area and I am hoping to worship there soon. I've worshiped at almost every other Christian Churh in the area.

Coram Deo,
Kenith
