HOW can you tell IF a FAMILIAR SPIRIT is in Operation ?

What are the signs ?????

I have a friend who has a very strong prophetic gifting, (Can be spot on)but THEN he tends to go on and on and on and on.........to the point he leaves everyone feeling over powered, dis-armed, and with a roaring headache LOL !

All jokes aside, COULD he be moving via a "false anointing" at some point, cause from being edified, you end up feeling like your mind has been a victim of "A CONTROLLING SPIRIT". It is an odd feeling, like a trance.

I notice this only ever happens around people he is looking for APPROVAL from.

This is a tricky one, so I'm just throwing it out there......Cheers

PS: He has a reputation as a self appointed Prophet of doom wherever he goes, but often he is RIGHT, just his delivery could be a bit smoother.....

If you prophesy by faith without unction, outside God’s permission, you are in danger of tapping into a spirit of divination. THIS MAKES IT SEEM LIKE POT LUCK, OR WE HAVE TO PUT UP WITH THOSE WHO MISS IT.....

A man told me he received a prophetic revelation from the Lord. I asked him to share it with me and he said, “It is way too deep and nobody was ready for it.” I said, “Brother, you need to be careful with that. If you have a revelation from God you need to let the prophet’s judge” (1 Corinthians 14:29). All prophecies need to be judged, examined and weighed against the logos of God. Scripture says, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God because many false prophets are gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1). Don’t get distracted by the term false prophets. False prophets don’t start their ministries as false prophets. They start them just like you did with sincerity of heart and a love for Christ. It’s what happens along the way that decides their destiny. If they learn how to avoid familiar spirits they can make it. If they don’t they fail. It’s that simple.

If prophets and prophecies were always accurate then people would be tempted to follow prophets instead of Jesus. All prophecy needs to be tested for accuracy. Period. Suddenly acting totally out of character
Major changes in behavior for no reason
A loss of memory
Polarised state, as though struck dumb

THESE are some of the symptoms THAT PEOPLE CAN EXPERIENCE , this is from from reading them on a site that dealt with negative energies, what we would call a WITCHCRAFT SPIRIT.

Prophets make mistakes and some prophesies are wrong. Scripture says that we “see through a glass darkly” (1 Corinthians 13:12).

That would be a false prophet then, someone we are told to avoid.

It's also interesting that verse cited says nothing about prophets making mistakes or being wrong. It does say we know in part, that part being what has been revealed, and that which is revealed is the part that is prophecied. He's saying sometimes 'we don't know', which is the opposite of what that verse passage teaches, and therefore incorrect.

If prophets and prophecies were always accurate then people would be tempted to follow prophets instead of Jesus.

That's stupid.

Do you recall all shenanigans Isaiah and his vast posse were pulling back in the day?

No, me either.

All prophecy needs to be tested for accuracy. Period. This helps close the door to familiar spirits.

The test also helps the listeners from being deceived.

I remember Smith Wigglesworth mentioned in one of his books that some people would not know when to quit. God would give them something and they would share it, but after it was done they would keep going, no longer in the Spirit, but in the flesh. Wigglesworth would tell them to shut up and thank them for what they did share in the spirit.

Thanks, I just wonder if we dealing with a CONTROL FREAK here, and if that is linked in some way to WITCHCRAFT......he is very insecure having had an abusive past, which in my opinion, he hasn't FULLY dealt with. One time this preacher whose known to move in words of knowledge was speaking to this lady in front of the entire church and he just spouts out all these mental illnesses she had been diagnosed with. She screamed out. He utterly crushed a woman who was already emotionally fragile to begin with. It was at the end of the meeting and when the lady asked him what did he mean when he said those things, he just brushes her off and says its late and I need to eat. So, he left her in worse shape than he found her and now she has to deal with the fact that the whole church knows that she is a mental nut case. It's unbelievable how people can think they are all that because God gives them words of knowledge and then lack entirely in the area of love and mercy. To me, this is an example of an immature person who has not learned that gifts should be used to build up others.

I also know a woman who calls herself a prophet. For the most part, she seemed to be a woman of God. But there were times in her services where the atmosphere just became toxic. She would sit down and have people crawl to her laying money and car keys at her feet. It was creepy. Whenever it becomes about man and not about God, then you know that the Holy Spirit is not in it.

In the mental health biz it's known as mental illness.
A familiar spirit is one who you familiar with.
My whole church knows I am a nut case. I'm a flaming nut case. They didn't ask I told them. Otherwise they might think I was...well God knows what they would think. You know everyone has their differy opinions. But if anyone like that poor lady who got called out came to my church, there would be no problem and that's why I should get a salary cos I do my jobbie 24/7 why because it is fun!

Also is there ANY place for prophesies THAT make us feel CONVICTED to the point of condemnation ??? Or is that a fine line......I mean how HARD can a prophetic word or Prophet be or allowed to be ......

“Minor miracles”, which have the saints reeling, such as alleged gold dust and gold fillings are welcomed as being evidence of a visitation of the glory of God. Anyone who has researched even the fringes of occult power knows there are many deceptive things the enemy can do – even healings. No wonder Jesus warned that in the end times “false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect” (Matthew 24:24). We are living in those days.

Great signs and miracles is not what we are taught, but great signs and wonders..
The Pharisee' accused Jesus of casting out demons and healing God's children by Beelzebub and Jesus corrected them.. A house divided cannot stand..

I see a correlation between the gift of prophecy and the work of angels. In both cases a messenger of God is bringing His words to another person.

We know from scripture that Satan can appear as an angel of light. One way that I have personally seen this happen has been when satan has delivered a message from the Lord to me! So apparently, like a false prophet, fallen angels can pick up and deliver a true word from the Lord sometimes.

I know this happened to me more as a lesson than anything else. I don't think Satan is in the habit of doing this often, nor does God let him. But in this instance I was surprised by the mixed signals (God confirming a message that was delivered by Satan), so I simply went to God and asked Him what was going on! What He was showing me is that His messages are from Him, and are separate and distinct from those who deliver them.

IOW when a prophet speaks a word of the Lord, the message itself bears the signature of God that is separate from the person speaking. We rely upon the integrity of the prophet, to choose to speak forth the message as accurately as he hears it. Yet those who are mature and those who are also gifted as prophets can discern the words of God and tell how accurate of a job the prophet is doing. Some try to add their own explanations to it, or they might deliver it with the wrong attitude or display whatever other human emotion they are personally feeling at the time; but a careful prophet will try to speak only what God has to say and do it in the tone of voice that best fits God's demeanor at the time.

"False" and "mistaken" prophets can do any number of things to mess up. Some even give the message of God, but then immediately listen to other voices and deliver their message next. Or they might deliver the word of the Lord and then allow themselves to be inspired by another spirit to explain what it means. But the message of God is easy enough to verify, as any number of prophets, apostles, and mature Christians can discern it. Unfortunately too many churches haven't developed the proper authority structure to deal with this.
