Tradition did not teach me anything about the Godhead; the Scriptures did.

The Scriptures are a Tradition of the Church.

2 Thessalonians 2:15 - Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.

And lest we forget - if not for ages past of early Church heretics who believed they could interpret the scriptures themselves - the councils that handed down these terms and understandings would have never existed.

From what I recall, it was Athanasius against the world. It wasn't the council that did the convincing, the majority were Arians, Athanasius' use of scripture convinced them.

PS. They initially rejected the word "trinity" precisely because it wasn't found in scripture.

I assume by "the Church", you mean the Body of Christ, and not the RC denomination? If so, I definitely agree.
