• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Anyone have any ideas about how to survive living with someone who is really OCD about stuff? – Like everything has to be in its place and she obsesses if something has the teeniest scratch or something and thinks I did that on purpose to make her mad. (I’m talking about my mom, btw.)

Any “survival skills” would be apprecianted!!

Does she see a doctor? If not i would definitly suggest it. While i may not obsess over that type as mine are more of the intrusive type, but just be patient with her.

maybe make her realize what shes doing, not sure if thats going to get her mad. Perhaps someone else could step in.

Hi,
Has your Mom ever been diagnosed with OCD? Typical OCD carries with it an extreme element of anxiety and often depression about the obsessions and compulsions. There are other non-typcial forms of OCD like one called Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder that is very different from typical OCD. The most prominent emotions attached to this type of disorder are anger and frustration over the inability to have everything in ones environment "Just Perfect" This can spill over into expecting everyone else to conform to impossible ideals and cause stress in family relationships.
I'm not trying to diagnose your Mom with either of these things. I can't - I'm not a Dr. But if her problems were to be caused by a disorder than the very best thing for her as well as for your relationship is to talk these things over with a Professional therapist.
If your relationship is getting strained to the point where you just can't take it anymore than maybe you need to open up to her about how her actions effect your feelings, not to put her down, but to tell her that you greatly desire to have a better relationship with her because you love her.
Praying for You,
Mitzi

thanks, guys. and not sure. she has seen a Christian phsycologist before, but doesn't ever talk to me about it- just my dad.

i think he DID tell me it had to do with a personality disorder of some kind, now that you mention it!

thanks for your prayers. she's better than she used to be but i'm almost 17 and live and home and her problem doesn't help the whole parent/teen thing either, b/c she gets overly worried or controlling sometimes. but she's MUCH better, thanks. :)
