  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How can I relate to and live by a book written centuries ago?

Well...? How can I relate to and live by a book written centuries ago?

I'm interested in any answers you can give me, because this is something I really struggle with.
Times have changed, but God hasn't. Its easy to say that the Bible is outdated and isn't any good for today, or God will be more relaxed since times are sooo different, but the Bible is very much relevant to today's world. We can live by the Bible today, but its harder since the rest of the world doesn't seem to want anything to do with it. Look at all the sin around us---the world is getting worse.

Greetings
Never has history proven the Bible untrue in any way, it has been 1000% true down to the finest details perdicted in it's Holy pages.

This is a Holy book my friend, If we could walk thru histroy and see the millions of lives that have been changed we would see even those who set there faces against it cannot help but see they don't read that Bible it is like it reads me.

My x borther inlaws car burned to the ground, even melted the rims, but the Bible on his dash board did not burn, only the edges were wrinkled, but that day he knew also.

There are many homes that have burned down, some near me were the house burned, but the Bible was laying open not even burned.

There has been millions of people who have given there lifes to protect it, to preach it, to read it, millions of gallons of Blood have been spilt for following the teaching of the Holy book we have today.

All thru the Bible God apporved things in blood and to me that says why it has out last all who have set out to destroy it.

This is only a sample of what could be said, yes it is a Holy book to give us the instructions of how God requies us to live, it provides you every answer to every question, but the key is the seeker must be willing to seek.
Are you, then turn your life over to Jesus today, read his word with faith in what you read, it is the last foundation for truth left on earth.

Start in John and just read it, seek to understand and you are promised by God himself he will meet you, he says in the Scriptures jeremiah 29:11-13
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
12. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.
13. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

Asking is the first step to it all.

The Word Became Flesh

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

He was with God in the beginning.

Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

In him was life, and that life was the light of men.

The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood* it.

John 1:1-5

*Or darkness, and the darkness has not overcome

How does this address the OP? She asked how one can relate to the bible, and you post a quote from the bible talking about Christ without any comment on it's application to the question.

I thought it was very applicable. It was a question about the Bible, which is the word of God. This passage is about how the God's Word was made flesh.

The bible is NOT the "Word of God" as in that quote from John - that is Christ alone. To equate the two (bible with Christ) would be idolatory.

That is not what I was doing, and you know it.

Anything for an argument, eh? You accused me of diverging the topic, but that's exactly what you're doing.

I suppose I should have explained my surrounding thoughts for posting that passage, but I was tired when I did it. God's word is manifest in many ways, and I picked one of my favorite passages to illustrate it.

Sorry if I offended you, but you're free to ignore any of my future postings.

I didn't know what you are doing, and I still don't - that's why I asked. Perhaps if you took the trouble to explain why you posted it I could stop guessing.
