I know I have done some really crazy things before. What else would you expect from a sailor? But I know God has forgiven me.

Take a peek at some characters in the Bible. Paul, for example, killed Christians for a living, but after giving himself to God, he became one of the most influential men on the Christian world. Here are a few good links to check out; they are pretty good and to the point:

It doesnt matter what you have done, you can be forgiven all the same.

I've done terribly things in the past, but I don't believe that anyone would ever want to save me. Does Jesus really forgive all sins?

God does not catagorize sin, with maybe the exception of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. So, what you believe to be, "terrible things" are just sinful. Granted, in the biblical sense they are punishable by death, but they are no worse than any other sin as all sin is breaking God's Law. I do know that God specifically points out certain sins as abominable:

Proverbs 6:16-19
These six things the LORD hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
        A proud look,
        A lying tongue,
        Hands that shed innocent blood,
A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren.

I'd venture to say that most people are guilty of at least one of these at some point in thier lives, some probably more. The truth is, all sin is abominable to God. Imagine how God views sin. It is the antithesis to what He is. He is all things good. Sin is all things bad.

Let me ask you a question. Do you have a desire for salvation, and not just because hell sounds like a bad place? Do you desire to learn about God and believe that He is who He says He is? If so, you have nothing to worry about. Unsaved people don't feel like that. Obviously it is important that you study His Word to learn how you should relate to Him and to the other created beings He has sovereignly put in your life. But, salvation is not something you do something to get. Salvation is something that brings about a change in you. It results in a desire for the welfare of others. It results in a desire to live your life according to God's Word. It results in a desire to worship God. Salvation is the cause, not the result.

God bless,

Don
