• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How about forum-specific bans?

This is a science board, to discuss scientific matters, and as such it should have slightly different modes of operation in order to ensure that the scientific method is respected.

There are certain elements on this board (I would say you know who you are, but the sad thing is you probably don't) who regularly ignore or dodge questions, resort to rhetoric and otherwise refuse to debate science on the science forum. This behaviour obstructs the proper discussion of scientific issues and leads to the board turning into a spectacle of reasonable people who actually think shouting at a wall of dogma and bigotry.

I propose that the moderators have the power to issue forum-specific bans so that people who repeatedly engage in the behaivour described above could be stopped from posting on this board. (and its christian-only equivalent) This would allow proper discussion to advance and those who are willing to listen to learn more. And it would remove a lot of the endlessly repeating threads that clutter up this board.

What do you think?

The problem is, if such a thing were to happen then there would be no end of people getting banned. After all, one can easily acuse either side of being "dogmatic" about the topics being discussed.

That said, I agree that some people are not very conductive to good discussion or debate, but then again, that's nothing new here.
