  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The 398-to-17 vote comes after months of turmoil centering on Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), two Muslim freshmen who have stood accused of anti-Semitism over public remarks they have made referencing Israel and the Holocaust.

The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, or BDS, calls on the international community to withdraw investments and shun the Israeli government, businesses and other institutions to win greater rights for Palestinians living in disputed territories. Its critics argue that its goals would fundamentally undermine Israel’s status as a Jewish homeland.
The only opposition voiced Tuesday on the House floor came earlier in the day from Tlaib, who invoked her Palestinian grandmother in opposing the resolution, which she said “attempts to delegitimize a certain people’s political speech and send a message that our government can and will take action against speech it doesn’t like.”

“I can’t stand by and watch this attack on our freedom of speech and the right to boycott the racist policies of the government and state of Israel,” she said.

Sounds like a defeat for a member of the squad. - Maybe Nancy is right and they have no following
They haven't got as much following in the way the Right likes to imagine, policy wise. But we all like to follow the way they goad The Donald, and cheer them on.

Didn't you get the GOP memo? You have to paint the Democratic Party as identical to the Squad in all ways so that Trump can be reelected. It's not true, as you point out, but that won't stop the GOP.

In other news, Trump insulted someone

I must have missed it. Where did not agreeing to an international boycott of one of our closest allies condemn palestine?

Some 65 or so years ago when I first became aware of international politics, I enthusiastically cheered on the fledgling State of Israel in its heroic struggle for survival. However as the decades wore on I came to the realization that they were becoming the very thing that drove them to Palestine in the first place.

I'm just not sure why we have to condemn BDS. I'm no fan, but people have the right to hold these beliefs and even petition their government to adopt them. Condemning the movement just seems like the government telling US citizens what views they should hold.

This seems to be tied into the end times beliefs of the religious right that have carried through into their political stance. This stance ignores almost completely any justice for the Palestinian people.

And people say that the Jews control Congress…

Who has said something like that other than Trump? He told the Jewish activists of the Republican Jewish Coalition that he didn't want their money and he told them that Jewish voters want to control their politicians by the donations they give them (Source: Trump to Jews: I Love You But I Don’t Want Your Money). He also has a history of making some questionable remarks about Jewish people.

I'm confused about this...

Did they just "condemn" BDS or did they impose some kind of action against it?

Politicians condemn stuff all the time....people even get angry when a politician doesn't bother to condemn something fast enough. It doesn't mean a whole lot except "this is how that politician feels".

I suppose, but do you know how many places around the country have gone from "condemn BDS" to actually passing laws stating that contractors and employees connected to the state government had to sign a pledge that they were not part of the BDS movement. Just kind of a bad taste me to since I don't think that's something the government should do.

What a shame! They seemed so enthralled with the regular old Democrats we've had all these years.
These are a lot of the same voters that helped Barack on his way to victory in 2008 and 2012, particularly in the Rust Belt. Barack obviously didn't upset them too much. Cortez does.

Maybe I'll be shown to be wrong on this. But if I'm right, Cortez is the face of the party in some crucial swing states. That means more than nothing, I think. At least for right now.

As opposed to how they felt when it was Hillary and Obama that first came to mind?
The progressive voters have no trouble recognizing the differences between the DSA's and the rest of the party.

I believe that it is folly to think that the right is incapable of recognizing all or most of those same differences.

Why? Would you feel the same way if it was a contract saying they weren't neo nazis or part of a white supremacist group?

Yes. So long as the First Amendment is the law of the land. People are allowed to hold these views and be part of that group.

Ok....what government agencies/departments are making employees sign these contracts?
