  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

One of the most depressing, but spirit-filled movies I have ever seen. I do not reccomend seeing it if you are having a bad day, but it is just one of those movies that gets you. My pastor reccomended seeing it, so I went to Blockbuster and rented it. Great movie! The theme song, by Wycliffe Jean, called Million Voices, is also very good.:)

I wanted to see Hotel Rwanda at the cinemas, but Broken Hill's one cinema wasn't going to get a look in at all. Not that many people out there would have got a lot out of it, but I know a few friends who really wanted to see it.

Can I ask, what do you mean that a movie is spirit-filled? Can we make that judgement about a movie? I mean, movies by their very nature are designed to trick and decieve.

I don't know that is is spirit filled, but movie aren't necessarily designed to deceive - they are designed to tell stories, some of the fictional and some of them true like Hotel Rwanda. Which BTW I found excellent and deeply affecting.

I wasn't talking about whether the story is true, or based on a true story or whatever. I meant deceive at a baser level. The director guides the movie to make trick your eyes so you think something is occurring when it is not, the actors and actresses are playing someone they are not, and stuntpeople are everywhere. I didn't mean the director or actors intend to decieve or tell a untrue story, but look at the difference between real footage of a big event, then a movie about the event. The movie is designed to elict the emotions the director considers appropriate to the movie. A sad movie or scene will have hushed voices and emotional music to make us feel sad. It is an emotion thing, nothing to do with the spirit.

Spirit-filled--meaning, does the Holy Spirit speak to you thru this movie? In this one, He did to me. And, I do not mean that everyone is affected by this movie. People respond to the Lord in different ways. I believe that God uses some movies, which are filled with directors, actors, and the like who do not believe. That does not mean that His message cannot be seen in movies. Conversely, I did not mean to say that all movies are used by God. But, I think, we need to open our eyes and hearts to the world around us, even if it may be dying.
