Horrifying Dream

The scene opens in my dream and I'm being escorted through some entry or doorway into a very darkened interior of a muti-room "place" of darkness. I only glimpsed at who or what was leading me - it was just a figure. But the only colors inside this dark place were black and a dingy grey. There were dingy grey walls with mold and mildew everywhere, and as I walked through these dark rooms I could see human-like figures, some of them sitting at dark grey tables, some lying against walls, some sitting against walls, some with dirty, grungy grey covers over them. Every one of them was silent, looking downward, and utterly without hope. Their faces were also moldy, with mildew streaking down their grey, torn, ragged clothes. Their eyes were horribly dark, with dark circles around them -- shadowy...shadows everywhere. I couldn't tell if they were all dead, or just totally quiet. I was escorted through some of the rooms, and they could have been caverns -- it was that dark and grey. My subconscious thought within the dream was...these people are without any hope.
I awoke out of the dream in the morning and was very troubled by it. Was God showing me something of hell? If someone has any insights please feel free to share them. P.S. I am a believer of nearly 40 years.

Well …. two cents ….

In general, in hearing the dreams of others and myself from time to time .. the imagery you are presenting with the people and the cavernous rooms … in my general experience, that's not hell, rather, it's the status of a person's personal "building". Their own house, where their own heart and soul is so to speak. "The body is a temple".

Let me explain.

When Jesus talks about unclean spirits occupying a person, and bringing back 7 more wicked people to that person, etc …. this is what I'm talking about. The "house" of the person where something evil, rotting, "full of dead men's bones" may be. Does that make sense ?

When the spirit leaves a person, and it goes into arid places, seeking rest but not finding it, etc … that isn't "hell" either to me, I call that something else. And typically, imagery I've seen associated with that tend towards the "hell on earth" type of imagery. Dark fiery skies, apocalyptic types of scenery and scenarios.

So the imagery you are describing … those rooms, especially since you say they are almost cavernous … I view those more as the deep darkness WITHIN PEOPLE.

What's interesting about those people specifically, is their moldy, mildewy state. That mold and mildew seems rather specific. I think of a moist environment … so if this is referencing the interior of PEOPLE, and not hell, or some other place … then why all the mildew and mold ? Does this indeed point to a moisture ? There isn't evidence of fire, or desert, or simply dead men bones …. there is mold and mildew.

That part I find very particular.

And if this does indeed reference the interior of people … their temple, their house, etc. …. all manner of things may be found there (at least in my experience). False gods, spirits, idols …. bits and pieces of themselves from throughout their life, trapped. Dreams that die. Typically, a person who is "alive" …. that inner place is quite the opposite. It's usually vivid, lush, something of beauty. Almost Eden like for a lot of people. "My quiet place where I meet with God" … etc and so forth.

But these people … I'm intrigued by the mold and mildew. The shadows everywhere …. speak to me of a specific kind of unclean spirit.

Anyway, not sure if that helps. And I'm not saying that this is an interpretation … only putting out there what I've seen in the past.

Hi bhar,
I know you said you have been a Christian for a long time, but even we Christians can get 'mouldy'. Mould in dreams refers to spiritual neglect and the house might be symbolic of areas within your own heart. I say this with trepidation as it's not my intent to insult or upset. I know there have been times Abba has shown me areas of my own heart needing cleansing and to be spruced up.. areas I didn't even know existed - areas which were hidden away because of abuse. Papa often shows us different aspects of our hearts as symbolized by different people.
Of course the dream may well be about a group of people outside of yourself which the Lord is revealing to you. Please ask Him for clarity and what you should do with the information when He answers you.
God bless you

The word that immediately came to mind for me was "depression". It was as though your dream was some kind of insight into what it's like for someone suffering from depression. They have no hope and are downcast, they do not feel to look after themselves and it's like a mental prison.

Have you been praying about someone recently? Or do you know of someone struggling with issues of life?

I felt that this may equip you more specifically in terms of praying for a person (and setting them free through Christ Jesus).

If you are not personally depressed or feeling hopelessness, then the Lord may be revealing to you (in a vivid way) the inner hearts and minds of those who are deeply depressed and/or spiritually oppressed in order for you to be so moved, that you step out in faith to help them. It is all extremely sad isn't it. We need to help them.

It would be interesting to know what your spiritual gifts are.

You know....one of my sisters is very depressed. I believe demons have been confusing her. My other sister was visiting her last weekend. She wouldn't come out of her dark bedroom! My sister described her house as musty and moldy!!!! My sister was shocked to see her Christmas tree was still up and covered in dust!!!! How depressing! It breaks my heart. I've been reaching out and praying for this sister for years and years! I plan on visiting her this weekend. Please pray that I can finally reach her! I don't know how to fight demons.....but I'm going to try.........time is short!!!!!!!

Thank you Bhar your dream has meant something to me.......I don't want my sister living this way any more....

I will say prayers for your sister too Glorify. It isn't always demonic. It sounds as though she is "clinically depressed" and needs professional help. Take her to see her regular medical doctor first. They will know what to do for her.

She is on medication and does see a psychiatrist. My family's church doesn't teach or know about demons or anointing with oil. We have prayed. So our church doesn't have elders. But...there is a couple in our town that left the church to start a more spirit filled church. My mom says the woman blesses people with oil. I plan on speaking with them before going to see my sister. The other huge problem is......my sister doesn't want help!!! Plus....when I'm direct with her, my brother in law shuts me up. He thinks if I say the truth it will upset her, and she'll try to kill herself again! But I won't give up! There's a reason God keeps saving her life! He loves her and he wants her to come to him. This time I'm going to help her see there is not much time.......

:hug::hug: Praying for your sister.

As Humble mentioned a combination of Jesus and the doctors will help her. Also foods rich in vitamin B complexes (e.g. vitamin fortified high fibre cereal) omega fish oil (sardines) and magnesium (Brazil nuts) will help her but check with the medication she's on just in case there's any clashes.

Another thing which came to mind for me was buying your sister some praise and worship music for her to listen to when she felt low. If the husband's agreeable see if it can be played in their house or where she rests.

Will keep you guys lifted in prayer.

There are churches that have experienced and proven members that have the "gift of healing". (as in 1 Corinthians 12:9). With a few phone calls you will find them. Start with large Charismatic main stream denominations (that is safer than non-denominational) If the Lord wants you to take her to see one, He will open the doors of her heart and mind. We will pray that. The Lord has layed her on my heart.

Was she always like this, even in childhood, or was there a certain time in her life that it began?

Does she have anyone willing to stay with her in her darkness, and hold her hand and help her walk out of it ... not leaving her side until it's accomplished ?

Thank you everyone for all the advice and prayers. I didn't mean to hijack this thread....but maybe the "horrifying dream" was Gods way of sending me help before going to speak with my sister.

Humble watchman, she was abused by a neighbor when she was young and never told anyone till she was an adult. Plus, our father abandoned us and my mother when we were very young. So I believe she has deep scars. Then her husband ran off with our preachers wife!!! (It's hard to believe I know). There is more that has happened.....but what I've said gives you the idea.

It depends, people including my mom have been with her and stayed with her many many times. I've even begged my sister to come and live with me so I can be with her and help her. But she won't. She lashes out at us when we try to help. She has turned to drugs to numb her pain. She promised not to do drugs the last time she tried to kill herself....but I believe she's doing them again.

Thank you again every one! I will do all of your advice. I feel God is with me and will give me the right words to say to touch her heart this time!!! I also know that there is only so much I can do......she has to make the choice! I will update everyone next week.

God bless you all.

Thank you Glorify.

Thank you for sharing some of her difficulties. I understand now why the Lord laid her on my heart (and hopefully others hearts here too).

"Father, you are the great counselor, and this child needs your healing wisdom, your loving touch, and your powerful intervention. You know exactly what she needs, how she will come to accept it, and I thank you that your hand is upon her. Thank you for not allowing her to let go of her earthly life yet. Thank you for not leaving her side. Thank you for those that you will lead to her to help and to interceed for her. Let them come quickly, Lord.
I ask that your love and healing power fill her room and her home. Let it be felt by all who enter. Father, lift off of her all of the burdens, hurts, and faulty thinking that she has wrapped herself in. Peel away the layers, including the enemies whisperings with your grace and delivering power. Give her a sound mind, peace in her heart, an appetite, a desire to love and be with others again, let her see and be moved by what others need again, and bring full restoration to her faith in you that has been oppressed, Father. Thank you that this is not impossible for you to do, and that you desire her healing even more than we do. We stand here right now, in the gap for her. Have mercy Lord. All praise to you Lord. In the power and sacrifice of your Son, we ask these things as your children for the sake of another. Amen...let it be so."
