  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Cool! What platforms/languages do you work with? I'm a Mac/Python guy mainly, but also work with a bit of C/C++. I am old enough to have also used FORTRAN and Pascal though, so definitely some old school memories, LOL!

I'm most comfortable in a Unix environment. We have a Linux machine at work that I connect to for work stuff. My desktop and laptop machines are Macs, which I like because it combines access to a Unix shell with a nice graphical interface.

(For purists, yes, I know that Linux and MacOS are "Unix-like operating systems" rather than being Unix per se. Ahem.)

In my various courses, I teach Scheme, Ada, Prolog, Python, Go, and Haskell. Prolog is my favorite language, though I'm coming to like Python quite a bit. Go is a recent acquisition for me, and I find it to be an interesting entry in the C family of languages. My first language was Pascal, and I also have used FORTRAN IV back in the day. My first programming job was in COBOL, a very very long time ago.

That's an interesting comment. I must confess I don't understand what it means. If you could elaborate, I'd surely appreciate it. Thanks!

the scrip speaks of two paths, one crooked ( broad ) and one straight (narrow ) ... picture a serpent as it winds its way along from side to side ( left and right ) and consider how it is you take thought, as in reason, and this reasoning being a measurement or comparison between two opposites ( good & evil) and therefore not one or the other, but a mixture of both, and this mixture becomes a perception you clothe yourself with ...

now with this picture in mind think of this reasoning between two as a laboring to bring forth by steps as in precept upon precept or thought/leaf upon thought/leaf ( an adding of sin upon sin )

religion is an attempt to come to God/Truth ( seen as separate from self ) in ones own name/measurement ...
