By way of introduction, I'm a 65-year-old computer programmer. For privacy reasons, I prefer not to say more about where I work, and for now I'll say only that I live in the American Midwest.

I was raised in a Christian household, but for most of my adult life I've spent little time in church. However, now that my adult responsibilities are declining, I want to re-engage and learn more about it. I'm especially interested to learn more about your various religious beliefs, so I can figure out my own. Thanks for letting me participate!

Welcome to Christian Forums. I found some information about denomination specific doctrine by reading these discussions, there were arguments about whether one is saved by works or faith, testimonials, prayer requests, current events, too much politics etc. Just yesterday someone wrote mentioning Guideposts. My mother sent me a subscription to their magazine years ago. I now follow them on Facebook. God can do miracles. I learned about the Azusa St. revival in LA when someone posted a video link. Then I learned about some Scottish revival YouTube videos while searching in Google. The word Island of Lewis comes to mind. Alcoholics got sober, bars closed, and the crime rate was reduced as a result of revivalist preaching.

I've already seen some intriguing thoughts in your responses, but I'll spend a little time browsing the discussions before I ask questions that have already been answered 100 times, LOL!

At the risk of seeming completely obtuse, I'm not sure what this means either. I read similar passages when I attended church with my parents as a child, but I had trouble understanding them. Now I'd really like to understand them but I still have trouble making sense of them. If someone could elaborate, I would certainly appreciate it.

Cool! What platforms/languages do you work with? I'm a Mac/Python guy mainly, but also work with a bit of C/C++. I am old enough to have also used FORTRAN and Pascal though, so definitely some old school memories, LOL!
