Before you hit "Submit" on any of your messages, at least while the site is bogged down, if you highlight everything you typed...hold down CTRL while you hit "C". That will copy your message onto your clipboard.
If you get an error that your message didn't go through, you can go back into the thread and hit CTRL + V to paste it all back in without losing everything.
It's one of those things I had to learn the hard way!
