Angry Iranian students on Monday heckled President Mahmoud Ahmadinejads speech to mark the beginning of the academic year at Tehran University, with shouts of death to the dictator and thank you president. The demonstration, staged by approximately 100 students, provided a rare glimpse of the rising internal opposition to Ahmadinejad among reformist Iranians and was in stark contrast to the dignified reception he was accorded during his recent visit to Colombia University in New York. According to reports, the protesters clashed with pro-government students, and dispersed after Ahmadinejad left the campus. This is the second successful open demonstration against the controversial Iranian political leader in the last year. The previous time, students of Amir Kabir Technical University also called Ahmadinejad a dictator, and set fire to his picture. The current Iranian regime strictly controls any reform movements, numerous pro-reform newspapers have been shut down since Ahmadinejads 2005 election victory.
