Homosexuals in the Military

At the moment we are struggling to maintain the personnel commitments we have, and National Guardsmen and Reservists are serving far more tours of duty than they should be. And, with the "back door draft" people who decide not to reenlist are pulled back in involuntarily because of the time they need to spend in the Individual Ready Reserves.

The Army has rules and the Army has consequences. If gay people want to serve and are physically and mentally capable, who cares what their orientation is? If their behavior violates Army rules, they should suffer consequences, just as heterosexual soldiers should if they violate rules.

What's the big deal?

We just saw several thousand National Guardsmen in our state leave for Iraq, many for the second time. I would bet hands down that if you asked them if they would be OK with gay soldiers if it meant they'd get home a month sooner or be able to stay home a month longer, the overwhelming majority would say yes.

And? That is just one retired General's opinion, and he does not speak for all the Generals and Admirals in the United States Armed Forces today.

He was more than JUST a retired General. He was Chairman of the Joint chief of staff:

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) is by law the highest ranking military officer overall in the United States Armed Forces [1], and the principal military adviser to the President of the United States. The Chairman outranks all respective heads of each service branch but does not have command authority over them or their service branches [1]. He leads the meetings and coordinates the efforts of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), comprising the Chairman, the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Chiefs of Staff of the United States Army and United States Air Force, the Chief of Naval Operations, and the Commandant of the Marine Corps [2]. The Joint Chiefs of Staff have offices in The Pentagon.

John Malchase David Shalikashvili (Georgian: ჯონ მალხაზ შალიკაშვილ&#4312 (born June 27, 1936) is a retired general of the United States Army who served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1993 to 1997. He was born in Warsaw, Poland to Georgian parents. His father, Dimitri, was a lieutenant-colonel in the army of the Democratic Republic of Georgia in 1918-1921. Both of his parents fled to Poland after the occupation of Georgia by the Russian SFSR in 1921. They met in Warsaw and had three children, Othar, John and Gale. Dimitri then served in the Polish Army as a contract officer.
General Shalikashvili became the only immigrant in United States history to become a general of the United States Army[citation needed] and rose in rank through every unit command from battalion to division.[1

It's a fairly well known fact that the the psychological result of being oppressed or controlled is often a need/desire for deviant behavior.
Perhaps if society didn't push homosexual behavior to the fringes, the desire for latrine encounters would decrease.
Why would I go to a bathhouse to find a man to fulfill my sexual desires when I could just as easily meet him in the bookstore or at work, actually date and get to know him without being secretive. Which one to pick... hum... which one...
