The first time I've heard of Christians trying to classify other Christians as conservative, liberal or whatever was on this forum.

I've never been a believer of putting Christians into classifications. My opinion is that Jesus gave us the gift of life, whoever believes in Him shall be saved.

To be honest I am shocked at the ridiculing that Christians get because of the type of church they go to, or the type of bible they read. I have about a dozen bibles ranging from King James to NLT. I have been to many different churches from Catholic to Charismatic.

We are all children of God, and I pray that one day we will all stand together at the feet of God and be able to praise Him face to face.

Dear Brieuse,

Neither have I been a fan of classifying others as anything really, as a Christian I think we should be focussing on how Jesus is classifying us.
Jesus as the truth, the life and the way can be seen as liberal or conservative, but I would say compromising His teaching is us being liberal with it and attempting to follow His teaching is us being fundamental with it.

Also I agree with you that as there were different churches with different styles and emphasis in the NT, so there are today. The unity Christians have is in the Spirit and the word., different denominations and ministries is not really disunity but rather different styles and practice. in

[quote[ We are all children of God, and I pray that one day we will all stand together at the feet of God and be able to praise Him face to face [/quote] Amen. We are all God’s creation and those who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord are His children and sons.

But I am not sure how this fits with the homsoexuality debate, the teaching of which is either Christian or not.

Funny you say that Brieuse, because i've never heard of liberal and conservative Christians too until i came to this board. To me there's Christians and non Christians, end of story. With that being said, just claiming Christianity doesn't make you a Christian. There really and truly is only one way to follow Christ. The road to Him is straight and narrow, there's no twists and turns when you're on Christ's path. I truly pray that we'll all be on the straight and narrow path which leads to eternity with Christ. God bless.

Good post Brieuse:thumbsup:

He posted here to remind you that you forgot to add foundies on your list of labels.

I feel i am not a liberal Christian, but i am Christian and a liberal.
About the churches: I see it as one God and a lot of different ways to filter trought cultures and i don't think is bad...

Your right, christians should not argue and attack one another.
For this reason, the homosexual debate forum should be closed...

But conservative means to hold on to past values while liberal means to be free of past values and liberal means to be free.

A christian who wishes to be more free is considered a liberal whereas a christian who holds on to past values and does not want to change them is considered being conservative.

I just want to clear this up. There are only one kind of christians: Those who follow Jesus, declare him as the Son of God, and declare the ressurection; Glory to God, Hallejujah!

A great post. I too have never been refered to conservative/liberal except when it came to politics. Outside of that, a christian is a christian. I know many people practice it in their own ways, which is fine. But no one on here really knows anyone..but as soon as you hit a gay thread, or a homosexual speaks, right away it's "your liberal beliefs". Why is that? I have never been considered a liberal in my life. I sort of take offense to it (just being honest) b/c much of what they stand for I don't buy. But, I gotta tell you...THANKS to these boards...I have a different heart when it comes to liberals AND religion. They seem to be much more level headed and not so head strong as the self-proclaimed christians on many of these boards. I look at some of these posts, with "gays don't want jesus" or "your not a christian..youre gay..youre going to hell"...etc...and then you look at their icons, and they are "conservatives" and have their christian shields, etc... It does cause one to sit and think about things.

If we use these words to describe people it is only by extension relative to what they believe. Their beliefs are liberal (or conservative, or moderate, or whatever) so we ay that they are liberal (or conservative, or moderate, or whatever). I don't think the intent is to categorize the person so much as his beliefs.

To me (as a Quaker) there are people who have the light of Christ in them...

and there's people who have the light of Christ in them...

I don't make distinctions between people. I leave that to the demagogues and Pharisees who like to think of themselves as holier than everyone else.

In my daily life and as far as I can in my personal dealings with people, I don't make distinctions. We all have the light of Christ, which leads to love, peace, just dealings and integrity. Sometimes the light burns low in people, so we need to fan it, to remind people of the light in them, and to remind ourselves when it burns low in us.

But the light of Christ is not confined to the "holy people."
