  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello, everyone :) I haven't posted here before. My name is Nora and I'm pregnant with my second baby.

I gave birth to Ida Mae in the hospital, with a midwife that was employed by the hospital. I wasn't very pleased. I didn't feel like she did much at all the help me feel comfortable. She didn't even give the nurses the requests I asked her to. I know...that sounds selfish. But I just felt like a birth could be more personal than she made it...

So, I'd like to use an independant midwife agency... or however that works. I really have no idea. I'd like to have this baby in our home. I've heard a lot about birth in water. Does anyone know about that?

Has anyone had a home birth? Most everyone I ask acts like I'm crazy. They act like I'm asking for my baby to die... What I really am hoping for is a safe, at home delivery that can be a family experience.

My sisters and sister in law have given birth at home. But they don't use midwives. I respect that, and I don't have a problem with it. But it would scare me. I think at least for the first home birth I'd like to have an experienced midwife with me.

Does anyone have advice, websites, etc?

My sister was born at home, My mums advice to you is to make sure whoever you go with that they are very experienced in home birthing.
You need to be with someone who you not only fell comfortable with but someone who knows what they are doing.

Also it's very important to keep and open mind if for any reason you need to go to hospital or you feel you need to go then don't hesitate thats when you can put you and your bubs in danger.

If you keep both of these in mind my mums said you should have a very fulfilling experience.

She also said you will get people who think your crazy and putting your bubs in danger but you just have to ignore them.

If you go about it the right way then you really shouldn't have any problems.

I'm not sure about websites or anything like that but you could do a google search or talk to your family doctor they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Ok, here are some other sites I've had bookmarked:
http://www.waterbirth.org/mc/page.do
http://www.birthsource.com/Scripts/default.asp
http://members.aol.com/shndoa/birth.html
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Village/8832/famplanning.html
http://www.islandchildbirth.com/GeneralResources.php
http://www.childbirth.org/articles/stories/categories/homebirthstories.html
http://www.thelaboroflove.com/forum/home/
http://www.birthjunkie.com/homebirth/

There is a little bit of everything in those links... Waterbirth, homebirth, unassisted birth... One thing I learned is that the more Natural birth stories you read, including these types of birth, the more natural and do-able birthing is in your head. And your head/mind is Definately where you need to start to prepare.

HTH!

I don't have any advice, but I'm thinking about having my second at home as long as we aren't renting. I considered having this baby at home when I saw what I have to pay out of pocket for a co-pay, but my inlaws wouldn't let me give birth in their hot tub. lol
