  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Since this Holy Week I thought we could all post what we will be doing this week.

For me on Thursday night we are having Mass and Exposition of Blessed Sacarment until Midnight. Friday is Stations of the Cross and Adoration of the Cross; Saturday is Easter Vigil Mass and Rcia welcome/Light Ceremony and of course Sunday is Easter Sunday with Mass starting at 6:45.....Sunrise Mass.

Well, we'll go to Mass on Thursday (we do footwashing) and there will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament; on Friday we have Veneration of the Cross; Saturday is the Vigil (with baptism/confirmation/Eucharist for our RCIA) with the lighting of the New Fire and then Sunday Mass. :)

For us next week is the Holy Pascal Week, since we use the old calendar. On this Sunday we'll have Palm Sunday, and after that we'll have the General Funeral service, since if anyone departs during the Holy Week we don't have a funeral since we're supposed to be so focused on the suffering of Christ. Then starting Sunday night, each morning and evening we go to Church and read the Old Testament prophacies of Christ, and read about His Passion each day, progressing through it with Him. We also sing the Pascal Hymn, and do prostrations in the morning. On Thurs we have a 7 hr Liturgy for the washing of the feet. On Fri morning/afternoon we have a 5 hr Liturgy for Good friday. Friday night at midnight until Sat morning at 7:00 am we have a 7 hr Liturgy for bright Saturday (celebrating the descent into Hell, where Christ freed the righteous who were captive there and lead them to Heaven), and Sat night from 7:00 to midnight we celebrate Ressurection Sunday with the Liturgy of St. Gregory. During the week we fast more than during Lent, in addition to fasting until a certain hour (traditionally 3:00 pm), and only eating vegan foods, we also don't eat anything sweet. We don't watch TV or listen to non-spiritual music during this time, as we are just to focus on the Passion of Christ. Starting Wed night, we don't kiss, shake hands, etc, until Sunday because of Judas' kiss. After midnight on Sat, after the Ressurection Liturgy, everyone goes to friend's and families' house to have a meal and break the fast, then goes home a sleeps, then meet again on Sunday for a meal.

I just don't see this week as being any holier than every other week of the year. So I don't do anything special.

I don't think God is impressed with giving Him special attention one week out of the year and nothing the rest of the time anyway.

Really, for Believers, isn't every week holy?

It's just the week that we focus on the Passion of Christ, in preparation to celebrate the feast of the Ressurection, the celebration of our salvation, the most important date to a Christian.  And I agree with Reformationist, this doesn't seem like the forum for this thread :)

I'm sorry. I must have missed the post that said we only pay special attention to God one week out of the year and ignore Him the rest of the time.

Glad someone told me that's what I do. I wouldn't have known it otherwise.

sklipp, are you sure you meant to post this in the ND/R/P section?

Yes I posted this thread in here because I wanted to see how everyone (all faiths) would be celebrating Holy Week.  If this is out of place.......I apologize.

So ur church isn't doing anything special this week at all?  I don't remember saying that we give God special attention during this week only?

Ga 4:

8Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods.
9But now that you know God--or rather are known by God--how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again?
10You are observing special days and months and seasons and years!
11I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you.

Are Christians supposed to observe special Christian days, weeks, months?

I think its ok as long as we are NOT:

1. Bound by them ie if I don't celebrate it I'm condemned or less of a Christian!

2. Think that by doing these things we are brought nearer to God or made more holy ie scoring points for heaven.

3. Observing it so that we have seasons where we can be more "holy" than usual.

No, I'm sorry.  There's nothing wrong with it being posted here.  It just threw me off the way you phrased it "Since this is Holy Week."  Sorry if I sounded like I had a problem with it.  I certainly don't. :)

God bless
