My name is Julia. I'm a regular 14 year old girl, and I want to make a difference. Last spring, i played competitive soccer for two teams. I have played soccer since i was 4, starting off on a little church league, and then making bigger teams. I go to church every Sunday, and hated missing church to go to a soccer game or practice. Every year i would miss the biggest tournament me had to go to a an event at my church called D-NOW for the weekend. One day at practice, all of a sudden it came over me that soccer wasn't making me happy, there was something holding me back. I prayed for a really long time asking God "Whats going on?...is there something you want me to do?... is there something you are trying to tell me?". He didn't answer my prayers until 4 weeks later. I often played goalie and I hadn't let any goals in all season. The next game I played i got a goal scored on me, and we lost. Coach was so mad and i just didn't let it get to me. The next game i got 2 goals scored on me, and we lost. Again coach was <staff edit>, and even threatened to kick me off my position and sit on the bench all the games. the second to last game i ever played, 3 goals scored on me, and we lost. The last game i ever played, 4 goals scored on me. 4 games in a row, I wasn't myself. That night after going home crying because coach yelled at me. I prayed that God would show me some answers. In all actuality God had shown me my answers through those last 4 games. He told me then that He had a plan for my life but soccer was in the way. I was like, I've been playing soccer for my whole life God like what are you talking about? Then and there i had to think. I talked to coach and he understood, he said it had happened to another girl on his U-19 team. So he told me to take a month off, then decide from there. During that whole month I prayed everyday that God would show me his path, maybe not by words but by events maybe. Also, everyday my mom asked me " any decisions yet?" and i would say nope. I took me the whole month to figure things out. God didn't tell me anything, but my heart said "quit". I called up coach the last night of the month and he didn't answer, so i left a message asking him to please call me back..... I never received a call back. Some people on m team who went to my school, told me that he was talking trash about me for the next few months. He even made up an even worse reason on why i quited, and i got questions every day and rumors spread.I didn't let it get to me!
God still hadn't told me what the plan was until that summer. I was patient and prayed every day for his plan to be more visible. That summer i went to Camp Glisson with my two best friends Jenna and Lindsey. Camp Glisson is a Christian camp up in the Georgia mountains. We were super excited cause we were in the same group! plus our group had an awesome bunch of girls! It was the beginning of the week, and i had just told our two camp leaders and group about my soccer story, and they were like that cool and everything. They all prayed that God may somehow Show me somewhat of his plan that week. Three days later our group went kayaking on the little lake they had there. Our leaders had told us to go find a space on the lake and just kayak out there and just pray and talk to God. I went out and was praying really hard and talking to God and i opened my eyes and looked at the water. He said I want you to help people with no water. I kinda started crying because i was so desperate to know what his plan was. I wanted to know so that i could start doing what he wanted me to do. Our leaders called us back in and everyone was looking at me, and our leaders were like does anyone want to share what happened. They looked at me and said Julia? do you want to?... and i immediately said YES! I told them the story and they were all soooo happy! That night the leaders where in their beds and the rest of my group wanted to help come up with the foundation name and find some verses. My friend Jenna came up with The Holy Water part. And we all were like YES! that's the name! We found some verses that goes perfectly with my vision. The week was over and it was time to leave. By that time the whole Glisson staff knew and were in total support of it!
I had gotten home and Told my parents about it. They were very excited to get started. When i went to church the next Sunday I shared with one our Youth staff, Jason, my story and vision. They are helping me through the whole thing right now and really want to help me and support me!!<staff edit>My name is Julia, and That is my story.
