  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So if the tiller, planter, waterer, harvester, grinder, cooker, pakager or anyone else along the line is not a "perfect Christian" then communion is tainted? And then we have the juice. What if some non Christian made a barrel that it was in?

The priest is just another person. I think this may fall under the "food sacrificed to idols" category. 1 Corinthians 8:7

But not everyone knows this. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat such food they think of it as having been sacrificed to an idol, and since their conscience is weak, it is defiled.

Basically, it means nothing at all if it is sacrificed to an idol, but if you yourself believe it is defiled, then it is defiled for you.

I appreciate your insights..What I have a major problem with understanding
is why in the first place would GOD place the worst kind of offender....

Sexual predators of children for example at his altar?

Is this so that these sinners will be last?

When the HOLY COMMUNION is touched by unclean hands and it is then
administered in my faith to the tongue to the belly, it was to avoid profaning
the BODY. And the same with the CUP. Are those closest to the BODY
suppose to be the furthest? Is this the intention of GOD?

I say no. I think that he intended Priests to lead HOLY lives. And to have
confession on themselves done to remain HOLY. And if the priest that heard
their sins felt that they need to purge their evil then
they should not be allowed serve mass for the required time if limited.

I would rather walk right up to the Tabernacle and stick my hand in for a
piece of the BODY than have it be served to me by SATAN himself. I feel
that many have been fooled and the bread that they were given over time
was unholy.

Please help me understand this dilemma.:priest:
Paul talks about receiving the Lord unworthily, not distributing unworthily. There is nothing on the part of the priest that can effect an already consecrated host.

If a priest shows positive disbelief during consecration (not doubt, but a firm belief that there is no Real Presence....in which case he has no business on the altar), then there is no consecration, and many are fooled. These men will have to explain that to God and I would not want to be in their shoes.

Exactly. If you are looking to receive Communion from someone who isnt a sinner, quit looking you're never going to find a human like that.

The Host is consecrated regardless of the condition of the priest. What matters is that he is properly and validly ordained. The Church dealt with this issue very early on. My history knowledge does not serve me well enough to say exactly when, sorry about that.
Regarding the girl who was refused the Body - I believe that she was offered the Precious Blood and her mother did not accept this. Communion is valid in both forms.

I think we call what you are referring to as intinction (sp?). and it is acceptable if the Priest does the handing out. This is usually not done. Some people dip the Body into the Blood and this is NOT allowed. Catholics may partake of both the Body and the Blood, but this is not neseccary as both are present in both forms. MOst people just take the Body. Any corrections on my post would be appreciated as I am no expert.

How do you feel about this practice in light of Jesus' words?

John 5:53-54 Jesus therefore said to them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Unless ye shall have eaten the flesh of the Son of man, and drunk his blood, ye have no life in yourselves. 54 He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood has life eternal, and I will raise him up at the last day:

If the Holy Mysteries are offered by a valid priest, the Orthodox hold the same postion, that it is the person receiving who heaps condemnation on himself/herself if they approach unworthily. Also, I believe the priest is culpable if he gives the gifts to someone who is not united to the Orthodox Church or is unprepared to receive it. This is why Orthodox priests are not to give communion to anyone outside our Church.

The Body and Blood are present in both forms so I feel that partaking of only one is in line with scripture.
