  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Showed Sherlocke as a more violent person than tradition does. Great movie, lots of action and intrigue. But too bloody and gory for young kids.

There was a scene with human sacrifice, but it was presented in a way that did not glorify the deed, or other occult practices.

Not for the average five-year-old. But ideal for adults.

It's just not Sherlock Holmes to me. The whole point of the series was that Sherlock just had to think. He hardly seems to do that at all in this film.

But in the books Sherlock didn't just think. He was a master of disguise (A Scandel in Bohemia" + several others), he was a bare-knucle fighter ("The Sign of the Four"), he was a chemist, he knew sword fighting ("A Study in Scarlet"), he was trained as a boxer ("The Adventure of the Gloria Scott"), he knew martial arts ("The Adventure of the Empty House"). And as for him not thinking, that's not true either. Holmes often kept his thoughts to himself and didn't divulge information until the very end. And that's exactly how the movie went as well.

I've been reading these stories since I was a child and they remain in my top 3 favorites of all time. I absolutely love these stories. And I really enjoyed the movie. It was defiantely a different portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, but I don't think that it was bad. It was nice to see some of the other things that Conan Doyle said he could do. And I loved that they finally portrayed Watson as a younger man! He wasn't a fat old man in the stories, he was younger and built! That made me absolutely giddy!

Overall I would give it a 9/10. Very enjoyable!
