  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Funny you mentioned egg nog Chad.

I've been thinking of dedicated a whole thread to it, cause all I got was that for the past...forever. lol.

And its the most yuckiest drink ever. UGH!

I love cooking with my mom.
Traditionally, for New Years we spend a good week going to everyones house and wishing them well. We also have the table set the whole time, so when people come over, everything is ready and we just have to heat things up.

Everything about this time of year makes me feel good.

And when Kost plays Christmas music all day...yeah love that too. :)

When it's over and I don't have to hear any more songs about Coca-Cola's bastardization of St. Nicolas and radioactive reindeer and Frosty the thrice-damned Snow Abomination for 10 more months. Except at the rate it's going, it'll only be 9 months by next year.

Christmas lights are my thing. I love just standing outside with just the soft sound of the falling snow, while while the Christmas lights illuminate the area in what looks like a beautiful sunrise. My family would normally have some Christmas music playing inside on the record player (usually Dean Martin or Bing Crosby). Then we would sit around with family members playing board games and eating some homemade cookies. Ah, the good old days :sigh:

Not being a big celebrator of this particular holiday season have to admit the most wonderful magical bit happens to be the Christmas markets. Birmingham, Tallinn, Dresden ... all wonderful and magical and awesome. I like the food, the amazing creations, the sounds, the music, the atmosphere, in fact it's one of the only environments where I actively enjoy being in a crowded, noisy, people filled situation :sohappy:

I love everything about Thanksgiving. I love how we have a christmas movie marathon on thanksgiving morning while cooking for the feast that is always scheduled at 1 but never happens till 4. I don't know why we don't just change the time. I love the constant noise that is traveling throughout my parents house; from the adults yelling at the dogs and kids to get out of the kitchen to the ladies yelling at the guys to leave the food alone and go back outside to finish the turkey. And then of course I love the crazy black friday shopping! Waking up at 330am and shopping till 5pm! Woot woot!

Because then it would end up being at 7.

In the run-up to Christmas I like re-reading the story of Jesus' birth, fairy lights, Christmas lights on in town in the dark, festive shopping displays, advent calendars, decorating the tree, making Christmas biscuits and reading The Christmas Mystery :) Oh and wearing Christmas earrings :D

At Christmas I like midnight mass/church services with lit candles and the stillness of contemplating the moment Jesus was born, the hope it gives and the thought of him as a tiny baby. I like seeing family, watching Christmas films and tv specials and eating festive food.

What is your favorite part of the holiday season? I know we have some internationals here so this should be interesting.

EGG NOG!!!!

The end. Nothing says lame like an endless, insufferable holiday season where social activities get disrupted and everybody's got plans.
Spare me the whole crock and wake me up on January 2nd.
