  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

:help: Hola,
I have a mexican boyfriend and he speaks very little English so I am trieing to learn more spanish. So i saw this and was wondering if someone would take some time and teach me. I'm afraid that since it's hard to understand him i will never be able to teach him english and he really needs to learn it. We would be able to understand eachother. Right now he has an english teacher and i'm helping as much as i can but there is times where he says something and askes \in spanish how to say it in english and i have no idea what he said so i can't tell him what the word means in english. I understand "how do u say" in spanish and i can say it but can't spell the words in spanish. Please help me. Thank You.

It all depends on what level you're at now. Learning a new language is very time-consuming and you'll have to learn a lot of grammar rules and lots of words. On top of that you have to learn the idiomatic usage, which is probably one of the hardest parts of learning any language.

I recommend this website: http://spanish.about.com/. There you can find a lot of information for beginners, including an e-mail course that might be helpful.

Once you have a basic understanding of Spanish grammar, I recommend reading Spanish magazine articles or websites in order to increase your vocabulary and become familiar with the language in general. Spanish TV channels are also good, if you get any of those.

Saludos,
Steven

I studied spanish in high school...i may be able to help you- i love it.

"How do you say..." = "Como se dice..." como has an accent on the first O.

"What does ___ mean?" = "Que quiere decir _____" que has an accent on the E.

Learning Spanish can be difficult, but not impossible if you want to learn. I understand how difficult it can be to date a man that speaks a language that is different than your own. I spoke very limited Spanish when I first started to date a Mexican, years laters, I am now fluent in the language.

I would be willing to help you learn. Are there any particular words or phrases that you want to learn or are you seeking a more general knowledge?

If you would like, you can send me a message here in the forum and I will try to help you with what you need to know.

God bless.
