• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I am a strong believer that a strong involvement in something whether it be reading, painting, fixing cars, etc can be very useful in combatting the urge to drink. Personally, I have to stay busy. If not, I will sit in front of the TV and see a vodka or beer commercial and end up thinking about taking a walk to the store. I can't be idle. If anyone has problems with fighting the urge to drink, maybe you should look into something that you may find fun to do to occupy your time. Just and idea....

I do alot of drawing (mainly portraits), painting, and exercising my dog. I am an American Pit Bull fanatic.

Does anybody else have a hobby to keep themselves busy?

Well, there are hobbies that i do enjoy but at this time, location, pecuniary considerations and mode of conveyance reliability extremily restricts my desires to fly fish for salmon and steelhead or hike along the mountains trails of Northern CA.

So, in the meanwhile, I occupy my time with web surfing (mainly military/veteran), reading, pedaling my mountain bike around town, posting/reading here at CF and listen to my music (while perusing CF and the web).

Hobbies are a fantastic idea. It's important to maintain some comfort and familiarity in your actions, but picking up some new things to occupy your time greatly helps most people. The idea is to retrain your body and mind so that everything you see and do doesn't become a trigger for use.

I work as a contractor, so it seemed logical for me to do some work for habitat for humanity in my spare time. It keeps me busy and leaves me feeling great at the end of a day where I might have just sucked down a couple bottles of Vodka and passed out like a moron.

Good post! It's nice to talk about these things with people who understand. :)
