I read the Bible every day. I watch TBN (Christian television). My favorite TBN show is "In Touch" with Baptist preacher Dr. Charles Stanley. I also listen to Christian radio. In addition on the radio, I listen to The Blaze (conservative political internet radio) and WFMT (famous Chicago classical music radio station). I also like to learn foreign languages (French, Italian, German). I'm a trained librarian, but I don't read much, only when my roommate is lying down with a headache during daylight hours and I need to be quiet. It's true; I don't read much. I read when I was young. Look where it got me *smile*....

I like to design and make things. Many of my hobbies are creative outlets. Others give me an excuse to exercise and/or spend quality time with nature.

My most recent hobby, however, is genealogy. I've picked up where one of my grandfathers left off. Thankfully, he was so thorough that I don't have much work to do. At least not on his side of the family. The other side is more difficult to trace, due to the Swedish of custom of forming last names from the father's first name and adding "son" at the end.

Pretzeling myself physically is actually super effective for mentally unwinding when I'm stressed out due to midterms, the wildfires, and everything else. This is a weird but relaxing hobby, haha.

Speaking of drawings earlier, thought I'd share a few recent sketches. Whenever I'm trying to solve a problem related to development, or am just trying to figure how to set something up, I like to sketch it out on paper. I've found that it gives me a better grasp of what I'm working on, and allows me to visualize it easier.

Scripting and game development in general can become mentally exhausting after a while, as it requires a lot of thought, careful planning and problem solving. However, most of my sketches are the complete antithesis of that - highly unorganized, free, random and lazy. I actually prefer them that way, as it allows me to approach problem solving in more relaxed and carefree manner, and gives me a mental break when needed. Although, I do hope to improve the quality of my sketches and drawings in general over time.

Btw, I sometimes reuse discarded paper, in order to avoid wasting it. Just encase you're wondering why there's a giant reminder to pay my bill on time in the center of the second photo, lol.

1. Cycling. But I cycle to work at the moment, so cycling doesn't get much of my leisure time right now.
2. Hiking. I've got loads of maps. Sometimes I like the freedom and flexibility of walking on my own, and sometimes I join people from church.
3. Embedded Software. I'm not an electronics engineer, so I had to learn how to do this. I've completed two projects using ATmega chips. I have two unfinished projects that will be done eventually.
4. Paragliding. This is both the best and worst sport in the world. I didn't get many flights this year. Probably less than 20 hours in total. Too much unflyable, rubbish weather in the UK.
5. Listening to music. I have loads of music, and I spend quite a bit of time searching for more on YouTube. I like most stuff, with the exceptions of rap and opera.
6. Trading financial instruments. This is my most recent project. Learning how to make money from online trading.
7. Dancing. I've learned various different partner dances for quite a long time. Mostly just Salsa these days.
8. Car maintenance and repair. I don't believe in paying other people to do things I can do myself, so I bought the manuals and tools and learned how to do it.
9. Making things. This is a very general and broad interest, I've made all kinds of things in the past.
10. Politics. These days it feels more like satire, but I do try and keep up to date with what's going on.

I started doing a bullet journal this year. It's fun. If you look it up online there will be a lot of examples of artistic varieties of bullet journals. I don't really do it for artistic reasons. Just as an alternative to using a planner as I have used for many years. I plan on trying it again next year. I may use it for more brainstorming next year.

Nice! Those are in the Arduinos, and Arduino-compatible boards that I've used. Eventually, I'd like to design custom PCBs based around Atmel chips, to save space and weight.

I love the outdoors. I often go hiking (snow shoeing in winter), camping, hunting and I quite often go alone. Last year I spent five days crossing several wilderness areas. I was dropped off at the start by a friend and picked up at another location.

I also enjoy traditional European martial arts. I enjoy using European style swords. Along similar lines I also practice self defense (empty-hand, blade and firearm)

I also enjoy board games, primarily war games. I have several the simulate historical wars/battles but I have come to enjoy a couple of Euro style games (SpaceCorp and Terraforming Mars)

I also read a lot. Sci fi, history, all things Tolkien, Norse and Finnish mythology

Nice! Those are in the Arduinos, and Arduino-compatible boards that I've used.
My projects are mostly based around the Arduino Nano, but I've never bought a genuine Arduino board, as they're so expensive, and the clones work just fine. I don't really use the Arduino libraries anymore. Functions like 'delay' tie up the processor, so it's much better to learn how to use the built-in hardware, such as all the interrupt and timer capabilities. The manual for the ATmega 328 is, if I recall correctly, about 600 pages, and I've read quite a bit of it in the course of understanding how to use built-in hardware capabilties.

Eventually, I'd like to design custom PCBs based around Atmel chips, to save space and weight.
I have built something around a 28 pin DIL ATmega 328p using stripboard, but it's a lot of work. I have also been designing a board using KiCad, and eventually I intend to get a prototype board made, probably at OSHPARK. One of my almost-finished projects is a reflow oven for surface mount. I also bought a few bits and pieces to try and make my own vacuum pick and place pen for surface mount.

*Geek hat off*

Is it possible that there are ladies who find this kind of geekiness attractive?

I am not really "into" any religion. I keep my religious beliefs to myself for the most part. My beliefs are in a state of change and have been for a while now.

Have you considered joining historical groups like the SCA? Swordsmanship and combat are popular interests.

I participate in HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) Alliance. I enjoy the YouTube channels of Metatron, Skallagrim and Schola Gladiatoria. All three are well versed in history, martial skills and can present topics quite well. All three are well educated and well trained gentlemen

Wow, that’s a nice group! I went to their site and found two in my area. I’ll keep an eye out for future events.

How long have you been involved in martial arts? Were you always interested?
