  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So, I just went to the Houston Museum of Natural Science and saw the Archaeoptryx exhibit. It was quite good, with the piece itself at the end but a large quantity of other lithographic limestone fossils.

I later realized that now I have seen 2 out of the 10 extant fossils of Archaeoptyrx.

So, I am about to go to dinner but if anyone wants to ask me stuff I'll be glad to answer it :)

Where are the other ten? I thought there were eleven fossils, actually.
How big is it? I've always imagined it to be as big as a human, but Wikipedia tells me it's tiny! So much for the infallibility of Wiki.

Someone apparently DID come in and start spouting about how he didn't believe the timeline after I left and my dad was still in the exhibit.

Apparently there is 1 in Houston, 1 in London, one in the Teyler (I think) Museum in Holland, and 7 in Germany, with one in the Naturkunde that I've seen and one in the hands of a private collector somewhere. At least, according to the little wall stand thing.

They're rather twisted in death, but the junks of marble could not have been more then 4 foot (about 1.3 meters-ish) on a side (including all the empty space around it so the thing itself was probably less then 3 feet/~90cm), but it's thought the fossils are of juveniles, so the full grown size is anyone's guess.
