  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hmm.. I'm disappointed.

Yes. Very disappointed.

I'm just saying I'm disappointed at the lack of RPers here. And the lack of expierence. It seems most people here are all one-liners and are using the asteriks (*) to discern actions from vocal and a great deal of the characters are over-used cliche ones. (EG: Cat-girl with traumatic past, the end) I don't know. I'm not trying to hurt anyone's feelings. I'm just a little sad at this. I was so happy when I saw that CF had an RP forum. Oh well... Back to just writing out stories...

I have to disagree with you. While there are some really inexperienced rp'ers here there are also some really good ones, who know how to communicate w/ the typewritten word. (and emotes) Before you give up on this forum's rpg threads let me ask you this, how many threads have you explored, and I mean really explored not reading just a few posts? How much time and energy have you put into encouraging the less experienced rp'ers? How many tips have you given to help those less talented make their rp gaming experience as great as you have had in the past? I could go on and on, but I don't want to beat my head against a wall.

Look at Time of Trial in the Peria subforum. Pretty much everyone there is quite experienced at RPing-- and nary a one-liner to be found, either! :) Remember: everyone starts somewhere. Have patience with those who lack experience-- PM them some feedback, maybe; it'll help them grow.

Don't get me started on cliche characters... it's a conundrum even very experienced writers must contend with. :)

I pretty much second what Woman of Faith has to say... though I understand your frustration.

I think this site has a full range of writers. I've personally never been in a game with somebody who used astricks like you're saying (and certainly glad for it!). It's strange, but it seems like people get stuck roleplaying with the same group of people. I have no idea why this happens. Well, maybe it just happens to me because I tell my friends what games I'm in then they join. But I digress...

What I would recommend if you're not enjoying the games you're in, try jumping in one that's fairly well established with people who write a little more advanced. That way you generally know what to expect. Then if they like you, they'll probably join your games if you make new ones. And you can also invite them via private messages.

(This is going to sound terrible, but if there's certain people you just don't like roleplaying with, then try to avoid stories that they're in or they are likely to join. If you're creating your own game, I would recommend putting rules that will most likely deter those you're not so fond of being with. Also, something to realize is that the more they roleplay, generally the better they get. It takes experience, and some are just needed to get that. I've seen certain people develope their skill astronimically in the amount of time I've been here. By the way, the first roleplaying I've done is on this site, but I'm a writer, so I guess I adjusted quicker.)

I'm almost tempted to join your genetic engineering thread. I've always wanted to do a sci-fi game and have never done it! Unfortunately, I've already got six other threads I'm commited to currently. Arrgh... (Maybe if you beg me over a private message or something, my concience will force me to do it. You seem like a fun person to roleplay with. Maybe we will sometime.)

the original mix of players were quite good, but most of them have drifted away and that was before the RPG forums were opened. I miss them..

but then others like LF, VH and Bus come along.. you're right, kashidi. There're some experienced and some not so experienced players around, but we all start on a certain level. It takes time for people to improve and realise the need to do so, and yeah, even that process is such a learning experience.

not so long ago, we had a thread offering to help people improve on the writing, but really, it's not something that you can force on others. Unless they see the need, there's nothing much you can do. And don't doubt it, people WILL realise sooner or later as their reading interest expand, as they want to become more perfect in their writing... so i second LF on the part with patience. :)

in terms of RPG, you have probably sieved through some of them and missed the more complex ones. ;)

that's a fair observation, VH. uh, another VH! :D
well, same for me, firstly due to the type of RPG and secondly due to the level of writing. Certain types of people tend to be thrown in together.. there're some who like plotting.. :p some who only enjoy big battle scenes.

Haha, you weren't talking about me formerly? ;)

Roleplaying can sometimes get annoying when you find yourself in a game with people who like something different than you. Oh well. Tis the way roleplaying works. For example, I had a great idea of something to do in one of my games, but somebody else did something and now that's completely not possible. Nothing wrong with the writers except they couldn't read my mind. ;) Yet I assume you're already familiar with things like that since you've said you've roleplayed before. Now I'm not sure what I'm rambling about, but I should head off to my games and advance them like a good like roleplayer.

lol. :D

which is why you need plotting! it's so much fun and you can hammer out lots of other details that you don't even think of before. With plotting, things tend to flow so much easier, but then 'no plot' works ok too.

um, i still prefer a bit of plotting. Helps when you got blocks.

This is the first time I've done rp'ing on a forum like this. All my experience is on tabletop w/ good ole paper, No. 2 lead and dice or in live in chat rooms on the 'net. Needless to say, I have little experience writing it all out so the thread w/ writing tips sounds great. Is it still running and where do I find it?
Right now I'm in the Consi thread in Laurealda and it's totally unscripted/unplotted as far as I can tell. I wanted to get my feet wet in this type of rpg before joining a more established storyline and I've found I enjoy the footloose and fancy free nature of the unplotted thread. Still, I think I'd enjoy something more planned out so my character could have an actual goal.

For the thread to ask for help, here’s a link to it: http://www.christianforums.com/t672117

I personally don’t like games that have a fairly well worked out plot to begin with. I like the freedom of being able to be spontaneous and unexpected. Haha, if you want a good example of spontaneous and unexpected, just read Those Long and Cold Nights under New Worlds. :D

'You must spread some spam around before posting in this thread again'
Megachihuahua thinks to himself, 'Maybe people would know you existed if you joined more threads.'
He feels his other personality saying, 'Maybe people would let you join more threads if you didn't kill them by the time your character finally was introduced.'
Then he feels lighthead, and the drugs start to talk, in an irritating high-pitched voice emobodied in little furballs, 'HAPPY HAPPY! SELF ESTEEM IS GOOD!'
Yet another personality retorts, ' Does the world really care about how you feel?'

for RPG with plots, i can point you out to some here:
Enkar: The Horn Gate = please note that although it reads 'section 3', the story is actually only beginning. pm cyberwing for more details.

Portals of Destruction = same, only starting.

A Time of Trial = only starting as well, and the plot is a bit complicated, but if you're willing to read through the infor (we can give you a summary), it'd be fun.
