Another CF member asked if I had any information about the history of theistic evolution. I couldn't think of anything so I did some poking around and jogged my memory a bit. However I didn't really turn up much new.
The only direct reference I could find was of "Woodrow Warfield theistic evolution" which is described as: " Adam's body was the product of evolutionary development (second causes working alone), and his special creation involved the imparting of a rational soul to a highly-developed hominid."
That came from:
http://www.reasons.org/resources/apologetics/pca_creation_study_committee_report.shtml?main
which is not primarily about theistic evolution but has a fair amount of related history within the Presbyterian Church.
In the West the Earth started being considered to be significantly older than 6000 years old somewhere in the 1700s as a result of better understanding of geology.

As best I can tell the Day Age view and Gap theory developed as a result of the geology, progressive creationism and theistic evolution came about as a in response to fossils and Darwin.

Another lead:
http://www.ncseweb.org/resources/rncse_content/vol18/868_changing_the_public39s_perc_12_30_1899.asp
has some information and a bibliography that might be of interest
Another page cited the following as covering the development of theistic evolution
Dillenberger, John, Protestant Thought and Natural Science, Garden City, N.Y.: Doubleday, 1960.
I would be interested in hearing what others know/have heard, other sources...
Thanks
