Do a Google search and type in "Church of the Apostles found on Mt. Zion".

The FIRST "Church" was a SYNAGOGUE, located on Mt. Zion and presided over by 'James' ('Yaakov'), the Lord's brother.

Blessings, Chalk Isle

Hey guys,

I'm new to this forum and I need help. I am actually writting an essay regarding places of worship from various religions. I'm actually a little confused as per the history of the church. I know there are a lot of different sects within christianity, but what I'm interested in how the first church came about and what group started it? Then I can talk about its evolution, but that is afterwards.
If anyone can help me that would be great!
Thanks

Some "facts" are actualy fantasies.

You must define the word "church" correctly before you can look for its history.

It is actualy built of "living stones" (people) and is not confined to any one denomination, regardless of arguable dates of origin.

if you decide a history of denominations is your goal, the first IS the RCC. Denominationalism started with them.
Their claim(s) of authority are arguable at best, and totaly subject to the private interpretations of their (arguably) self-appointed leaders.

Without the help of the Roman Emperor's legalizing & organizing them, it is, again arguable, that Rome would've become the geographic center instead of Jerusalem, and that conformity would be equated with unity.

Bravo !! but of course..the closest form of documented "proof" would be the year"107" The first known use of the term "Catholic Church" was in a letter by Ignatius of Antioch , who wrote: "Where the bishop appears, there let the people be, just as where Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church.
I do not subscribe to the notion of a Catholic Christ!,or,peter,john,paul.Titus..ect...so claiming the Catholic Origin to the Day of Pentacost is ....well..foolishness!

The Church was undivided from the day that Jesus founded it until 1054. At that time it split into The Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church. In the 16th century Luther, Henry XVII and others in the Catholic Church split from the Catholic Church to form Protestantism.

God Bless.
