I had seen 'My name is Bill W', remembered seeing it on Hallmark and borrowed it from the Library when I started recovery. It was nicely done, the scene where he was outside the bar in Akron was well done and pretty accurate. It just left out so much, Ebby Thacher talking to Bill W was a watershed moment it should have been in the film. I thought leaving the Oxford Group out of the story was a mistake, they were vital to the development of AA early on. Of course they did it some what reluctantly their ministry bore fruit and should have at least had a cameo remembrance in the movie.

There was one scene I thought was profoundly insightful. Bill W and Dr. Bob are walking down the road and see two drunks helping one another down the alley. Dr. Bob turns to Bill W. and says, 'drunks love one another when they are drunk, why can't they help one another get sober'. That is what AA is all about, drunks helping drunks recover from Alcoholism. Still, a great movie that tells the story in a way that helps the non-alcoholic relate to how it works.
