  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I am Latino (Argentine and Mexican).

It is not a matter of race/ethnicity, but how the kids are raised.

My sister and I and all our cousins were taught to respect all during Mass, and at other times too.

In my current parish, it's the white kids who run around causing problems. The parents seem oblivious. But again, it isn't an ethnic problem, it's about parental control. Please don't think all of any race or ethnic group behave in a certain way, it's not that simple.

The church I am going to holds a Mass in Spanish after the first morning Mass

So 2 Masses are required to fit the ethnic/bilingual needs of the cultural custom

"white kids" is a pretty offensive way of using your language.

I apologize if you feel that my saying it's the white kids that cause the problems is offensive.

I was pointing out that in my parish, like in Michie's, the problem is with a particular group of kids but we shouldn't single out any one ethnic/racial group for criticism. It's all how the kids are brought up.

I agree. But I have a hard time believing every hispanic parent in my parish is a bad one. I was leaning towards something else. But it's going nowhere anyway. So no need to discuss it I suppose.

Sorry if I offended.

Yes it sure is. I was born and raised in the states and have only been to Italia once, saw the Pope when I was there actually.

Irish and Italians....seems like a common combo. Somone asked me why I'm blonde and have blue eyes and not dark hair and before I could even answer he said there must be some Irish in there.

....the Italian lang is similar to Spanish so I don't see that talking about Italians is that far off topic.....:)

I'm wondering if this may have something to do with their culture? I know deacons family is not like this but it seems most are in our area anyway.

I don't get it.

Can somebody give some insight?

I'm sorry that people are getting the wrong idea of what you mean. I know you don't mean to offend anyone.

Having said that, I think it's more a matter of what the parents allow and what the norm is for the area. My husabnd is Hispanic. His parents taught him and his siblings to be totally respectful and behave well at mass. But, away from church, my husband's family (especially his extended family) tends to be pretty loud and rambunctious - almost as bad as my family.

I agree that it has to do with how parents choose to raise their kids, and more so important on how parents choose to show their kids on how to act in certain settings. I mean, if they were to say "okay we aren't at home right now, so this isn't okay" would be approrpriate.

Well, we have a large hispanic population in our parish & town. Regardless of culture, this seems very wrong.

I just wanted to clarify my earlier post.
In meaning it was sumrized that these lax parents were going to Mass probably as a cultural Catholic thing and they were a bit vague on the whole explanation of the Mass, not as a cultural Hispanic thing.....as most of my post pointed out, in almost all of my experiance with Hispanic culture, this stuff just doesn't happen.

Get some Slavs. Ever seen a three-year-old with a two hour attention span? I know this seems like another ethnic stereotype, but the Russian kids I've known from church are unbelievably well-behaved. I'm Polish/Turkish and my husband is Czech/Irish, and we're trying to figure out how to make our kid Russian ;)
