Dear Daily Message Readers,
READ: Psalm 139:5-12
Psalm 139:7 (NKJV) "Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?"
In this age of electronics, spy movies, and treachery, we have all become aware of "bugging devices" that can monitor a person's office, hotel room, home, or telephone so that every sound is picked up. This is accomplished through very, very sensitive microphones that are so small they can easily be hidden just about anywhere. World leaders, important government officials, crime bosses, and wary business people in strategic positions must be extremely careful of what they say, especially when entering a strange setting with unfamiliar people. The fear and awareness that they might be overheard is sure to make them think twice before they speak and ruin their life.
When is the last time you stopped and thought about God's presence in your life? Did you ever consider that He sees everything we do and hears everything (yes, even in our minds!) we say every moment of the day? Writing about God's presence over our lives, the author of Hebrews says that "Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account" (4:13).
This truth about God's nature is both comforting and faith provoking. It is certainly comforting because God stands ready to deliver and rescue us when we are in trouble (Psalm 139:10). It is faith provoking because, as Solomon records, "The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good" (Proverbs 15:3). What a great effect this simple truth should have on the way we live!
The next time you are tempted or in some kind of perplexing situation, remember that God is watching and listening.
Faith Lesson: Distance--both physically around the globe and figuratively in the ups and down of our lives--will not allow us to escape the presence of God.
In Christ,
Darin Smith
