As long as he is willing to debate based on the original Sanskrit version, I really don't care under whose direction he studied.

makes sense but I would still like to know the name of his guru as he is speaking as if he has some authority on hinduism just because his parents are hindu.

I was on a discussion board and someone said that the bagvida ghita (sp):-o,talks about black and white skin, saying its better to be whiter or light skin rather than darker skin.
Also about the caste system

I like the sound of hinduism, but being mixed race would go no where near it if it was racist.

Thanks

Lol, do most Indians look white to you? I'm pretty dark myself, and you should meet my Mallu and Lankan friends, who are practically black.

Its BS to say Hinduism is racist, you will not find a more tolerant religion in the world. Much more tolerant IMO than the western ideologies of Christianity and Islam.

Lord Krishna, the author of Bhagavad Gita, and incarnation of Bhagavan Vishnu, is described as one, "Who Has Long, Black Matted Locks, Dark-Complexioned Lord." Krishna means dark, or black, in Sanskrit.

Can a religion that worships Keshava be racist?

I think CF's members are intelligent enough to know about something called context, and therefore, since the context is race and beliefs, they will understand that Buddhism is very tolerant of race and other beliefs, like some other religions.

Believe it or not, you can actually do something even cuter, like perhaps provide scriptural support for your statement, no? Come on, I know you want to be cute.

I dont think there is a more misunderstood, misinterpreted or misquoted religion in the World than the Hindu religion. Yet personally when I educated myself only slightly on it. I found it to be incredibly profound and beautiful.
I am thankful for Hindu thought because without that root there would be no Buddhist thought as we know it.
I also find it funny that Hindus are the subject of so much hate and prejudice yet when you look at the Buddhist teachings and thought there are alot of differences but they run pretty much along the same lines.
I find incidents few and far between when someone will tell me to my face or on a board that I will go to hell. We all know that according to the Christian teachings I will go yet there is always "I just think Buddhists are so cool" or "I like you buddhists"
Dont get me wrong I am human and prefer that to hate speech. Yet Hindu thoughts are ones of peace and oneness and understanding and of a god that no one or no book or no name or people can comprehend and they are told they are evil and Idol worshippers and condemned to hell. I dont understand people, but then that is the struggle, to love and cherish what you dont understand.

Thanks for the props, NOSELF.

There are quite a few Westerners who think even Hinduism is 'kewl' because of its colorful, heathen, pagan-like Gods. Thank you so much for stating the fact that Hinduism can be as 'cool' as Buddhism from the philosophical standpoint too.

Very well put. Agreed 100%

but is tolerance really a virtue? tolerance of what? tolerance of sin? tolerating lies?

One need not even go this far. Recall that in Sri Lanka, Buddhists have destroyed Christian churches and performed other such acts of violence. This certainly does not impute guilt on all Buddhists, but it prevents anyone from saying that Buddhism is especially tolerant.

That is definitely arguable.

This is quite true. But before arguing specific details, we must first make certain that we are discussing the proper text. The (arguable) mentions of black and white skin are contained in the Rig Veda, and not the Gita.

Because you don't believe in gita you should not post anything from it. As usual you are lying through your teeth that the Bhagwan of this Universe talks about Caste system. Maybe you are talking about your own concept of God where he is taking about his great qualities of jealousy and envy and wrestling with men! Shall I post some verses for you?

Please come back when you are ready to behave yourself. There is no purpose to be served by matching insults with you.

The Bhagavad Gita as spoken by God himself, only talks about the Soul. The Soul is equal in all Living Beings. God don't divide people based on beliefs, man does.

For your info the speaker of the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna is Black. In other words, God is black. Black is the orginal manifestation of all other colours. All those people who are trying to degrade Hindusim, are liars. Sanatana Dharma(Hindusim) is a Religion for the Spirit Soul not for the outer Material Body which come in many colours.

Really, lets see you quote from Rig Veda and translate the vreses. Where are those verses ?

Why has a year-old thread been revived?

Anyway, as to the issue you addressed, if I recall correctly, the only thing I said about the verses in question is that they are contained in the Rig Veda rather than the Gita. I haven't addressed the issue of whether or not they really advocate racism.
